Bexar County SO Off-Duty Radio Use

Today, driving past a church that is right down the street from me, I noticed that the Bexar County deputies working off-duty to block traffic on the 1604 service road were using STX portables to intercommunicate!

So, when I got home I plugged in their standard talkaround freq 853.4875, and sure enough, that is where they were operating.

So, it appears that many of the STX portables may still be in use for off-duty deputies to intercommunicate, independent of the new EDACS ProVoice 50 million dollar system.

I've noticed the Deputies using radio's while working traffic for the Church crowd. I suppose they don't have any other use for the old radio's.
