Is there a better antennae than the one that came with the unit?

I am not talking about outside/roof mounts etc.

Just another rubber ducky type for example.

Sorry...not a techie...just an avid scanner listener.

Also apologize if this is elsewhere....I looked but could not find it.

Thx!

Try RADIOSHACK® INDOOR TELESCOPIC SCANNER ANTENNA
Model: 20-551 or Model: 20-283

A telescopic antenna might work better, as would a mobile mag mount on a file cabinet or other metallic object near a window.

Depends on what you will be monitoring, antennas can be had for specific ranges... If its TRS 800-ish range Radio Shark makes a nice 800 antenna for the $ but you'd need an elbow...

Thanks, are we talking another rubber duck or a true telescope?

I bought the 20-283 at Radio Shack with the elbow and I am not sure it is any better than the OEM that came with the HP2!!!

Need just a bit more info

Do I need an antenna that goes to 900MHZ?

I currently have the Radio Shack Rubber Duck 20-283 (800 Mhz) with the elbow...

Just trying to optimize my new HP-2 for my area.

I am not a techie but love to listen.

In my experience with the oem antenna that came with my 436 Uniden has some very good performing antennas these days. I picked up a couple new ones anyhow and tried a few of the ones I've collected over 30 years of scanning and saw no major improvements over stock in my area. For specific uses such as 800 MHz usage an antenna specifically for that band will offer potentially significant improvement over the stock antenna designed to work well over a wide range of frequencies. Telescoping antennas work well as they allow you to tune them by extending only certain sections based on what you are listening to. The Radio Shack 20-006 is a great example of this type of antenna. For me I typically listen to a range of vhf, 500 MHz and 800 MHz simultaneously so a wide band antenna such as the stock one works the best for me.
