I remember hearing a beep code for a Working Fire designation many years ago. Usually prerceeded a second alarm order. Does BFD still have that designation?

Also, is there a list of the various 10 codes? I have the numerical imcident codes.

Thanks for the link. I notice that the 10-4 code is missing as well as the 10-15 code.

I would still like to know if BFD still broadcasts a beep code for a working fire.

That ten code list is inaccurate. The only time I have ever heard BFD use a ten code is a 10-15. That's used to announce the death of an active or retired member. I don't know that they still do that on Channel 1. Here is an example from Facebook.

Boston still taps out boxes and additional alarms on Channel 1. Those are the "beeps" that you are referring to. I don't believe that they use the term "Working Fire" any longer. Initial station alerting is done by computer to printers in the station and repeated on Channel 7 using a computer generated voice.

They use Code A, Code B, and Code C as the page shows.

They use the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) as does every fire department in the country.

Here is the complete list, NFIRS Incident Types, Actions Taken, Property Use Codes

I think that covers what you were looking for. If BFDS5 comments, his post will be 100% correct, including any corrections to my post.

Thanks for the info and update. When I started listening to the BFD way back in the early 1960's, there was a beep code for a working fire. I just can't remember what that was and my curiosity has got the best of me. I had a Halicrafters analog dial tune radio to pick up BFD transmissions on channel 1 at 33.74. I made frequent visits to Fire Alarm Headquarters on The Fenway. I'd love to see the interior changes that have been made over the last 60 years in regards to receiving and transmission equipment but I know that is not going to happen. In todays environment, you would need a security clearance from the Dept of Homeland Security! ;)

Working fires have been gone for a long time. The working fire signal was 45 followed by the box number

No. The working fire announcement was broadcast on Channel 1 and beeped out as 45-the box number.
Alert tones for dispatch were different from what is heard now. The tones were different for each piece of appartus as I recall.

I know when I was listening last year I noted the alert tone was different for a single apparatus response vs an actual reported fire or calls that seemed more serious. I was able to use the tone alerting feature to cut down on alot of the miscel calls and only catch the more interesting ones.

You can set a quik-call II decode to unmute your radio on BFD 1 or 7 for a struck box with tone 687.0Hz
