I am a new owner of a SDS200, its a really great radio, I have a local very old phase1 digital which I get great, My state is on a P25 Phase 2 right now my State Police are on the network and 90percent of towns and other state services, The site that is close to me I get a fade of zero bars up to 1 maybe 2, so needless to say i can't really understand any of the communications, should this REMTRONIX antenna make a difference over the stock antenna?

Actually something outside would be a far better choice. That antenna (in your case, with a right angle connector) would work but before you do that, try moving the scanner a few inches might make all the difference.

It’s a good antenna, one that is worth adding to your collection… I run the 800S on my SDS100. (The “S” stands for SMA. The “B” version denotes BNC.) But my version of the antenna does not have the 90 degree bend at the base. I don’t know if the 800B does but the description below says “Flex Angle Rubber Duck”, which indicates it should attach to the SDS200 and point straight up, which is what you probably want for your SDS200. I’d call Scanner Master and inquire before ordering. The following is from Scanner Master’s website;

The Remtronix REM830B FLEX BNC 800 MHz. Scanner Antenna is possibly the best antenna available for 700-960 MHz. monitoring! While it does not work as well on lower frequencies if you need extra range on a 700/800/900 MHz. system this antenna is hard to beat.

  • 700~900MHz UHF Band
  • Flex-angle Rubber Ducky
  • Vertically polarized Omni directional
  • 8 inch length
  • BNC Connector

I don’t have a problem on the lower frequencies (VHF HIGH, UHF) because what I monitor on those frequencies are local to me with strong signals. But Remtronix also makes a multi-band antenna which I also own and use on my SDS100. You can check out what Scanner Master sells in the Remtronix line to see if it is also made with that flex angle which you would need for the SDS200 if you need multi band.
