Alright, thanks much for that information!

I think I'm going to go for the Airspyr2 for him, as you recommended. Seems easier than buying more along the way, and having everything he needs to get going, minus a good antenna. I will let him figure that part out.

Thanks again!
😅 you'll buy more, there's so many things you can do, and your not going to want to stop monitoring the state system to check other stuff out 😄

Its best to determine all around which software your son may ever use. Airspy, Rtl Sdr Blog , NooElec all work with DSDPlus, Unitrunker and SDRTrunk. The Sdrplay will not work with Unitrunker.

While the R2 is nice and covers close to 10Mhz, there may be systems out there that span more that or have 7/800, 150/160 etc freqs in the sites.

For the 2 you mentioned the R2 would handle it

There are sites on the DTRS system that have 7/800 like this which would require multiple dongles.

Hey thanks for that information and advice! Much appreciated.

I'm just curious if you, or anyone knows of any other places to purchase other than just through airspy's website store.

The PayPal payment method they send you to when you check out just won't load and work for me, for some reason.

Thanks!

*Couldn't edit my last post.

Got it to go through and got him the Airspy r2 ordered. Now to figure out what antenna I'm going to get him as a starter. Still thinking the Remtronix 843S. really have to keep it cheap and something along the desktop or indoor type for now, until he finds out if and what type of outdoor setup he can have.

Really restricted on the antenna, with cost.

Remtronix works well, as I stated in other posts in this thread, for my sds200 and 100. So l, thinking that would be a good starter. Also, looking at any type of desktop or indoor models that do well, especially on that 800mhz band, if anyone knows of anything off thr top of their head thay would be a cheaper cost, but good antenna. Obviously a multi-band would be best.

Also seen This Antenna, but seems the connector isn't very good, per reviews.

Anywho, I appreciate everyone's help and advice! Thank you all very much, it's greatly appreciated!
