Is the Bound Brook rescue squad still in service? When did they close? Did they sell their rigs?

Mike,

Bound Brook Rescue Squad is still in service. But, they are purely a rescue agency now. 15-Charlie and Rescuezilla remain with them. The cut-off of their EMS operations at both the municipal and state level was on or after December 31, 2022.

The Borough of Bound Brook is starting a municipal-based EMS program under the Office of Emergency Management utilizing the former 15-Alpha and 15-Delta ambulances that came from BBRS. They are currently getting a makeover, so I do not have any information yet on how soon the agency will be active.

Who is left in service as full time Volunteer in the County?

A few of those that are not from fuzzy memory.

Hillsborough, Greenbrook, Warren, Watchung, Bernards and now Bound Brook are just a few that I know have gone contract.

Who else? TIA

Let's start with what you have listed. Hillsborough is contracted with RWJ. Started as 2 dedicated BLS units at the beginning of the zero-bid agreement in 2017, now down to 1 because Hillsborough did not like when the real price hit them. Green Brook has a "contract" with North Plainfield Fire Department (50F), but that can be hit or miss. Warren (61EMS) and Watchung (60EMS) have daytime and some weekends contracted to Atlantic Health, but they each have an operational volunteer squad. Bernards is half volunteer, half contract. The Basking Ridge section is still under the Basking Ridge Fire & EMS (20EMS). The Liberty Corner section is Atlantic Health's after Liberty Corner First Aid Squad (56EMS) closed in September.

Bound Brook has not been contracted. They are not even part of SASSA, the daytime BLS agreement for Somerset County. During the weekdays, the borough is at the mercy of RWJs kindness and other agencies that staff day crews. At night and on weekends, mutual aid from surrounding towns such as Dunellen (86EMS) and South Bound Brook (77EMS) is requested.

The following volunteer squads in Somerset County are still active:

[Bernards] Basking Ridge (20EMS)
[Bernardsville] Bernardsville (22EMS)
[FH-Bed] Far Hills-Bedminster (29EMS)
[Bridgewater] Green Knoll (34EMS)*
[Bridgewater] Finderne (35EMS)*
[Bridgewater] Bradley Gardens (39EMS)
[Bridgewater] Martinsville (43EMS)*
[Montgomery] Montgomery (47EMS)
[P-G] Peapack-Gladstone (51EMS)
[Franklin] East Millstone (52EMS)
[Franklin] Rocky Hill (53EMS)
[Somerville] Somerville (54EMS) {Nights/Weekends}*
[Watchung] Watchung (60EMS)
[Warren] Warren (61EMS)
[Branchburg] Branchburg (74EMS)
[S Bound Brook] South Bound Brook (77EMS)

Asterisk (*) agencies participate in 95EMS, the Central Somerset County EMS Collaborative.

The following paid squads in Somerset County are still active:

[Manville] Manville (42EMS)
[N Plainfield] North Plainfield FD (50F) They do not like to be called 50EMS
[Somerville] Somerville (54EMS) {Weekdays}

Sure.

Bound Brook Rescue Squad, aka 15R, continues to hold on with Rescuezilla and 15-Charlie. They are dispatched to fire calls with 23F, but only come out at convenience or when it is a confirmed rescue. Not much has changed here, besides them now being referenced as 15 Tech Rescue when dispatched by SCC.

The Borough of Bound Brook did establish a paid municipal-based EMS program under the Office of Emergency Management, known as Bound Brook EMS, or 4EMS. They have been in service since mid-July and continue to grow. The two ambulances, formerly BBRS vehicles, received their makeover and are now 4BLS1 and 4BLS2.

Like 15R, they are split dispatched by Bound Brook Police and SCC via the VHF EMS paging frequency 155.310 The DB was updated accordingly when 4EMS went into service; but, it was not until later observations that Bound Brook Police and SCC maintained their separate PL codes for their licensure on the paging frequency. To make sure you capture the calls, monitor in CSQ. I will forewarn you that there is some interference from time to time on it when not actively alerting, so keep that in mind.

I see the PL/DPL problem now on 155.310.

Somerset uses 100.0 while Bound Brook PD uses 162.2. Sheesh. @FT752

PL DPL codes or not licensed or coordinated.

Interesting post.
I grew up in Martinsville. My mother was a member of MRS during the 60's. I'm glad to see that they're still operating.
Thanks for posting this info.
