I have a BC2500XLT with the BP2500 battery pack. The pack is dead
and I would like to rebuild it using one of the inserts available thru
the internet. My problem is that I do not have any idea about how to
get the battery pack apart to do this. I am a bit afraid to try it as I
don't want to mess up the battery. Any help would be very much
appreciated. I use this scanner for aircraft (civil and military) and
have no problems with the often noted interference which was
eliminated in the BC3000XLT model.
BTW: The radio works great with 9.6 volts plugged into the 12V
jack on the battery pack. My guess is that anything over 8 volts
would work fine. I believe that a regulator in the pack holds the
charging/operating voltage at 6 volts which is the output of the
battery pack.
Many thanks for any help.

I did it when I put new cells in... It was not easy, mainly because they put epoxy on both sides of the battery, which held the two sides of the case together. There's slots on each side that are lock tabs... You push those in with a small screw driver and pull up on the case. If both the tabs are out and it feels like it still won't go, that's the glue. I forget how I got it loose. I think maybe I pried between the case and battery a little and broke it free.

Don't be afraid of the battery pack, I too have a BC2500XLT and have taken the battery pack apart 5 or 6 times and had a company here in Denver rebuild the batteries in the pack. They charged me $25.00 to solider the batteries together! I soldiered the new battery pack into the battery case, it's not that hard to do. I don't remember the battery pack being epoxied together, but it was 10 years ago or so. I'm currently looking for a new battery pack for my BC2500XLT, the problem now is the charging post keeps coming loose and my eyes just don't see the soldier points anymore... GOOD LUCK.....
