I've heard zero traffic on the edacs system for weeks, but there may be active groups I don't monitor. The FCC menu option tells me that the system is sometimes carrying traffic, its busy percentage sometimes gets above 25 percent. But usually it's 4 percent or less, and I THINK that's 'idle" percentage range.
Seems like they could pull the plug at any time now. I expect to see CC SCAN on all sites by the end of the year.

I thought I'd share this with the thread, as there may be interest by other scanner enthusiasts to push for change.

For what it's worth, I notice whenever there is paging between PD and FD in my area, I hear it in the clear, which tells me they probably don't share a key. So the question about interoperability between divisions wrt encryption is real. They have to turn it off in order to communicate with each other anyway.

Down for a few days in Southern Brevard, and the EDACS site here is still in service (851.150 is todays Control Channel). It appears SCATS-1 is patched between the two systems, and a few others are still running.

BCFR seems to come out of encryption randomly. Dispatch-3 and Dispatch-4 were in the clear a bit this morning. First Flight was in the clear as well, although I don't know if that's normal. I had learned the EDACS system pretty well for a New Englander. But the P25 (especially with all the encryption) is a little more challenging.
