I've heard zero traffic on the edacs system for weeks, but there may be active groups I don't monitor. The FCC menu option tells me that the system is sometimes carrying traffic, its busy percentage sometimes gets above 25 percent. But usually it's 4 percent or less, and I THINK that's 'idle" percentage range.
Seems like they could pull the plug at any time now. I expect to see CC SCAN on all sites by the end of the year.

I thought I'd share this with the thread, as there may be interest by other scanner enthusiasts to push for change.

For what it's worth, I notice whenever there is paging between PD and FD in my area, I hear it in the clear, which tells me they probably don't share a key. So the question about interoperability between divisions wrt encryption is real. They have to turn it off in order to communicate with each other anyway.

Down for a few days in Southern Brevard, and the EDACS site here is still in service (851.150 is todays Control Channel). It appears SCATS-1 is patched between the two systems, and a few others are still running.

BCFR seems to come out of encryption randomly. Dispatch-3 and Dispatch-4 were in the clear a bit this morning. First Flight was in the clear as well, although I don't know if that's normal. I had learned the EDACS system pretty well for a New Englander. But the P25 (especially with all the encryption) is a little more challenging.

FYSA, looks like another couple of LCNs from the Beach and South EDACS sites have been placed 10-7. The RR dB has been updated to place all the beach LCNs as CC capable --- mainly because the site (today - right now) is using LCN 5, 853.375 for it's control channel

Brevard has lit up their P25 system that will eventually replace their 30 year old analog EDACS system.

Currently only the (edit: south - palm bay) site is active on 852.6125

Funny, they are using the same WACN as Ozaukee County, EDIT: Wisconsin (at least for now) --- this system will be very much in play over the coming weeks.

I’m still able to lock onto South and Beach Tower, help me understand what has happened, I’m assuming, although I’m able to still lock the towers we have lost the remaining lcn”s ? Also, is there a way to contact you directly for questions?

that was an old post. all three EDACS sites are up and running, just not carrying much traffic. The North and South P25 sites are up and running. I sat on the Beach EDACS system site yesterday, and the only user of note was the Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital.

put your radio in ID search. I 100% guarantee you will hear SOMETHING during the day on the Brevard P25 system. it won't be much, but there is sporadic LE traffic daily that gets out without encryption.

So their tg's are not strapped but selectable for encryption? Is this from the dispatch side or portables and mobiles in the clear once in a while?

Never Never Land is in an old Peter Pan book. Brevard went encrypted.

Im not following. However, if you are referring to the hospital TGs that EMS uses to communicate directly with ERs, they are or will be encrypted. Another thing, if the hospital TGs are running through the gateway, you might have heard encryption through the gateway.

I believe it’s selectable at the console. I believe the field subscribers are strapped.

Interestingly enough, yesterday with the large brush fire in Palm Bay, EOC was patched with TAC91 and that dropped encryption on the P25 system and also brought traffic to the EOC talk group on the old EDACS system. My guess would be EOC is still bridged between the two systems but just an interesting observation during the tail end of the conversion.

As a side note it was nice to be able to monitor such a large incident yesterday while the patch was active.
