Good Morning,

I need a little help because I am not as sharp as I once was. I'm a Long Islander who hasn't scanned the Vestal area since 1990. That said, I now have an offspring attending SUNY Binghamton and so far have made three trips to Broome County and while in Binghamton and Vestal my Uniden Beartracker 885, which has Project 25 Phase II scanning capability, has been virtually silent, I don't get it. Yet on my iPhone, using the Scanner Radio (Pro version) App I listen to the Broome County Public Safety (P25) feed every day. So, why can't I hear the actual RF signals on the Beartracker 885?

I use the Beartracker 885 when traveling because....it's easy. I update the database with Uniden's programmer regularly and the GPS knows where you are and it usually works like a charm. My next trip up I will also bring my SDS-100 and see how that works out.

Any thoughts...answers....etc? Thanks!

your problem is most likely due to simulcast issues on the beartracker 885. that being said the sds-100 is built for performance in. simulcast areas. so if you program that for the area you are visiting it should work.

Lets start with basics. What receive antenna are you using ? How is the scanner programmed. While simulcast is an issue the 996P2 works fine in most of broome as does my 436. I dontk now how the 885 shows frequency or anything but does it lock on a channel for data ?

There is no way to tell what it locks on to until you hear something and figure it out by what you heard. I am using a Remtronics antenna.

When you say virtually silent, are you hearing anything at all? I know the BearTracker will only scan certain service types.

Yes, I will occasionally hear a FD Call that I assume is on VHF.
The Bear Tracker 885 scans POLICE, FIRE, EMS, and DOT
The radio works fine, at home I can hear Suffolk County PD, NYPD, FDNY, etc....Bur on my second trip up to Bing I thought it was quiet and I turned on the APP on my iPhone and it's a pretty busy feed. I am inclined to agree with some other's that it may not be handling the simulcast system well. I am spending most of my time either on Vestal Parkway or on campus.
