Simple question, what is the purpose of a bulkhead?

I currently have 2 pieces of LMR400 coming in from 2 different antennas. Both cables end with a Male N connector. I am looking for a jumper to go from the radio (SMA female) to the N connector on the cable.

Question is, is there any benefit of getting a Female N bulkhead to SMA Male jumper versus a normal Female N to SMA male?

A bulkhead connector is designed to be mounted on a flat surface with a hole drilled through to allow the cable/connection to pass through. You might use a bulkhead connector to pass through a wall, through a metal plate such as in a radio console, or mounted to the back of the radio itself where the coax connects to the outside and the inside is soldered to the circuit board.

There is no advantage to a bulkhead connector in terms of performance, and if you're looking for a simply jumper that will not pass through anything, you don't need a bulkhead connector.
