BCSO dispatches/assists/corodinates with virtually every agency except City of Asheville. Most of the PD's also have thier own dispatchers also. Primary for Black Mountian, and Biltmore Forest, and Weaverville are thier own dispatchers, with towns like Woodfin, the primary dispatcher is the SO. For the EOC, they dispatch for ALL county fire departments. Weaverville, and Black Mountian have thier own FD Dispatchers, but can be dispatched by EOC.

Weaverville FD is dispatched by EOC.

Does anyone know when the VIPER system will start carrying radio traffic for Buncombe County and at which site?

The VIPER will carry SHP and all state agencies as soon as all the WNC sites are tested, and running smoothly. ALL 3 sites will carry this... As far as BC agencies... It is still in discussion as to when the SO will have any TG's if any besides the access to the Statewide LEA one. EOC/EMS will have access to the Statewide TG's vias patches. Asheville FD will have at least some access as soon as all the new radios are installed and programmed. PD will after they get approval for new radios, and then order them install and program. Asheville is upgrading thier TRS to the ASTRO 4.1 platform to be able to interop with the VIPER, as well as provide better service/safety for the city "according to City Sources" . We will just have to wait and see what happens in other words.

Does this mean APD is going all digital?

I bet they cant wait to. AFD is already taken delivery of P25 radios and I bet the PD is hanging back until the "kinks" are worked out.

Correct AFR had new mobiles, and HT's... and is waiting for the main system to be switched to the ASTRO 4.1 format, and site two to come online... then APD will beg city council for the other grants and get thiers.... Then DPW.. Conventional testing of the digital stuff is slated to start by summer... From what a few of the boys siad they will run testing on the Skyland repeater then the others. Full upgrade of the TRS to the ASTRO is uspposed to be completed by end of 08 with AFR hoping to have at least Fire's 1-8 rolling digital with analog backups. APD.. we will have to wait and see. Two facts about the future of APD's comms... One: Yes they wil have primarily digital comms... Two: They will have at least two analog TG's for interop with IMAP, and with SCHP/BCSO.

AFAIK, they haven't been finalized and activated as of yet, so I'm waiting as well, I've gotten some of the 866 stuff entered into the BCD 396, but so far, just static and tech guys and the occasional medical mission that is just in analog.

I'm not pulling my hair out, but I am wearing out the bottomof my coffee cup waiting.....:)
