Programming my 996XT and having issues downloading the DoD nationwide system. Clearly too darn large and only want to download sites and TGs covering Oregon and Washington. I know when it downloads it brings up a deal with boxes to check but file so large it stops downloading not even half-way through. Is there some way to limit/choose the initial download? Even if it means just the sites and setting it to ID search (although not ideal)?

The question is: Does the OP already have other systems in the scanner and doesn't check the box to delete all systems first when uploading to the scanner? The scanner could be almost full already.

I deleted a bunch of systems, but not all as I had to enter some of the "Legacy" frequencies and MilAir by hand and wish to preserve them. But no, the radio isn't that full. For example I deleted almost all of Southern California, Vegas, Idaho, and others which will likely not be to drive to ever. The radio in question is filled with systems and Counties nearby or systems statewide for Oregon and Washington. Thus the DoD system would be filtered of all other area sites and TGs. But I have to get the whole system downloaded before I can edit unfortunately.

Just to be clear, are you experiencing the problem you are describing when you are uploading programming from ARC XT to the scanner, or when you are downloading data from Radio Reference into the ARC XT program?

If you are experiencing the problem when downloading from Radio Reference into the ARC XT software, that wouldn't be affected at all by how full the scanner is.

You were correct above/before. I am downloading INTO THE SOFTWARE TO EDIT BEFORE UPLOADING INTO THE RADIO. I can edit what I want out once this is accomplished; just need sites/TGs in bases in Oregon and Washington to upload; not the entire system. You hit on that before and were correct.

So that is the problem...not the speed, it just overloads my software. But according to Gommert, it's not happening to him?????

Just don't have the answer.

I just re-read this thread and while I cannot determine what could be the issue, (although I suspect something with your DSL), I do have a couple of suggestions that I hope may help.

1. Have you tried downloading ARC-XT to your WIN 10 desktop, and running it from there? This would eliminate the WIN 7 laptop as a source of the problem. I don't think you'd be running afoul of Gommert's licensing for the software, if you deleted it from the laptop, and reloaded it on the desktop--you'd still only have one running copy of the software.

2. Do you know anyone who has ARC-XT PRO who could provide you with the file you need so you can at least get up and running while you troubleshoot the issue? I have ARC-XT Basic, so not certain if any file I provide you will work with the PRO version of the software, but I'm happy to try, if you'd like.

3. Last point--and this goes to the downloading issue... I'm not remotely any type of expert, but there are known issues with ISPs "cutting out" when you download large files. Check out this article for ideas that might ultimately resolve your download issue:

Most of the suggestions aren't really applicable to your situation of downloading via the Butel software, but starting at suggestion 5, I think there are some great ideas that you may want to try. Certainly a simple reboot or updating your modem firmware isn't a bad start. I'd also check the modem driver suggestion--updating or rolling back a driver has gotten me up and running in the past.

I hope this helps--this kind of thing can be really annoying.

Good luck!

It's not happening to me either, see post #16 above.

The OP's DSL connection could very well be the problem. The suggestion in post #16 above to try a different ISP would be the next step to confirm or eliminate that possibility.

ARC-XT Basic and ARC-XT Pro use the same programming files. The only difference is that ARC-XT Pro offers additional features such as virtual control and logging.

I have no way to update the modem software/firmware as it's provided by (although I purchased) Century Link.

He also suggested I load software onto Win 10 platform. I have had significant problems trying that with even Sentinel; which refuses to load on Win 10 on my PC, no matter what I download by it's command. Personally I HATE Win 10. It has never been my choice to have on ANY computer, but instead was put on over my dissent by repair people. (Typically citing lack of support for it by microdic). If there was one made for Win 10 I would gladly load it, but trying to force it to work doesn't function on this desktop.

There could well be some ongoing issues with your PC, Sentinel is well known to work very well with Windows 10 and 11. What specific error messages are you getting when you try to load Sentinel?

Need to download "Net 2" (similar to this) which comes in a bundle with Net 3.something and get alternating message saying already loaded or not. Then I initiate download and it still won't load! Highly frustrating. Not sure if PC repair guy messed it up or what. But bottom line Sentinal will not load.

The fix for that has been posted many times. In Windows go to…..

Control Panel --> Programs and features --> Turn Windows features on or off (in the upper left corner)

Once that window populates, click in the box that says ".NET Framework 3.5 (Includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)”, and .NET 4.8.....

Click OK, and they will be installed. Then Sentinel will install on that computer.

been there...done that....didn't load.

this is what I am saying. I have tried all of the fixes that people have (thus far) said for both issues (Sentinel and XT Pro) and what people do not understand is that sometimes they simply do not work. The NET Framework issue is a great example. Probably tried all sorts of ways to the tune of about 7 to 8 times and would not load so that Sentinel would load (still get error messages) yet computer says it's in there! Really drives me nuts. Just no way to fix these things it seems.

Can you advise on the error message you see in Sentinel. Another possibility is the user.config file is corrupt. See this link and #86 & #86
