I would be very thankful if someone could help with this issue.
Here is what's happen.....

I decided that I wanted to use the Virtual Scanner in my ARC246T software
well it worked fine until I tried to enable Logging.

Since I do not run myself as Administrator, I had to log into the Admin account
to check the box to enable logging. While in the Admin account I check to see
if everything was working correctly and it was. It was creating the csv log file
just like it should.

Well, I logged back into my Limited User account and the software works fine
but every time I try to close the Vitural Scanner it gives me this Error Box

Runtime error '75'
Path/File Access Error

Ok, I know this is some form of permission error. Because if I give my Limited
User account ADMIN rights the error stops...... now how do I make it stop.
Now even when the Log box isn't checked this error happen. The Virtual Scanner
works, it's just when I close it, the error pops up..... How do I make it stop.

I looked at the csv file permissions and both my Admin and User have FULL permissions on that file....
Plus my Limited User Account " owns '" that file.
So what doesn't it have access to?

Stumped......................

Thanks.

Obviously, full permissions only on a measly CSV file isn't sufficient. Try changing the entire Program Files folder of ARC246 and its contents.

Gommert

Thanks for getting back to me on this.

What I'm saying, is that it worked just fine as a Limited User until I switch over
to the Admin and checked that box that says ' logging ' under the Virtual Scanner
part of the program. So the program doesn't really need full Admin rights
because it worked before. I just changed something in Admin mode then
it start display that message.

I really like the ARC246 software but any software that makes you run as admin is written
poorly. Running as an Administrator is dangerous and is the reason why so many Viruses and
Spyware gets installed onto windows machines. When running as a limited user these kinds of things
do not have the security rights to even install.

Just a note it would be nice if the ARC software was aware of this in the future.....

I do thank you for your help.

Why don't you uninstall the program and delete all of its files and folders (after backing up your .mem files) and then reinstall it? Then don't ever run it as an admin.

Wouldn't that fix your problem?

Slicerwizard,
That would be a good idea but when running as a Limited User your not allowed to
install software. This is the security feature that helps keep the Virus and Spyware from
installing. Pretty much anything that adds system files or changes to the registry will not install.
What may be possible is to log in as Admin then give my Limited User Admin Rights.
Then log out. After this Log in as the Limited User and uninstall then reinstall ARC246T.
After the installation take away my Admin rights and it should at least stop the error message.
But still the problem exsists of not being able to Log without Admin Privileges.
If Windows would follow the same rules as Mac and Linux this wouldn't be a problem because the
Software authors would be forced to write their software
with Limited User compatibility.

If you secure your computer with a good Anti-Virus, Firewall, and Spyware program you dont have to worry about getting all of these problems. Running in Limited is good but when you need to run a program with full rights you have to login to the Admin account to do such. If you dont go to questionable websites and download questionable programs then you will not need to worry about such stuff attacking your computer. As far as Windows being more like Mac or Linux that will not happen they are designed entirely different. Which is the reason why you dont see alot of programs that will work with the Windows platform that will work with Mac or Linux. If you scan your computer on a daily basis and keep all of your definitions and software updated then you should have no problem running any program in Admin account.

I totally agree with you on this. I'm pretty safe when it comes to surfing the net, I just like to have all my bases covered and then some. Currently I run NOD32 as my Anti-Virus along with Adaware, Spybot, and Defender as my Anti-Spyware programs. I let Nod32 and Defender run in the background to protect my PC from real time threats. As far as a Firewall, I run 2 of them. A Personel Firewall " ZoneAlarm" which isn't the best in the world but it does protect me from Outbound threats in case something should infect me and a Hardware Firewall "SmoothWall" which I built myself to protect against inbound threats. This is a great piece of software/hardware which not only functions as a NAT Router but also a Proxy server. SmoothWall works great when you have multiple PC's on your LAN that downloads the same thing such as Windows Patches. I just run as Limited User to add that extra layer of protection from something installing and spreading through my LAN. Anyways..... I do Agree with you, Windows will never be like Linux but they are doing a little better. Vista from what I have heard ask you for your Admin password when installing software even while logged in as Admin... this is something that Linux and Mac have been doing for a long time. It's slowly getting there........ Maybe one day......

I know this is the core of Windows but if they would do away with this Registry Hive it would pretty much solve all their problems but of course windows is known for being the king of compatibility so it will be sometime before they make that leap.....
I'm sure business wouldn't like it that much if one day MS told them that their going to have to replace all their software.
