I am getting ready to purchase a SDS100. The question I have is what type of antenna connector is on scanner, I know it isn't a BNC like whistler, looks like SMA connection, just needing clarification on this. Just wanting to get right connection for rg-6 cable to scanner, that way I will be ready to hook up when scanner arrives.

It is an SMA connector, but it has a collar around it to maintain water-resistance. It also comes with an SMA-to-BNC adapter, which is what I'd plan to use in your instance. So plan for connecting to a female BNC on the adapter.

The SDS100 has an SMA antenna connector. It comes with an SMA-BNC Adapter.

Or, you could remove the collar. But it takes a steady hand and you jeopardize the water tight fitting on the antenna. (The moisture resistant fitting is not an issue with me as I don’t take long walks in the rain!) But if you have a bunch of SMA antennas it might be worth it. I keep threatening to remove the collar on mine but I’m leaning towards not doing so... the difference in reception where I live is not so much an issue as everything I listen to is strong... even with the stock antenna. But there is an aftermarket 800MHz antenna with an SMA fitting that fits. Just specify the SDS100 version.

You can purchase and install the upgrades yourself direct from Uniden for less money than the dealers charge. It’s a very simple process, and only takes a few minutes. Upgrade at this link:

myUniden - Customer Product Registration and Support Area

When I upgraded a few months ago, these were the costs directly from Uniden:

DMR = $60
NXDN = $50
ProVoice = $49.99

You can purchase them one at a time, whenever you want. They don’t have to be done at the time of purchase.

The Sentinel software will do all you need as far as programing, using, and customizing the scanner. Sentinel gets weekly updates from the RR database to use in the scanner, or you can create your own favorites lists to monitor.

Third-party software packages will add some extra usability features (such as streaming, remote viewing and control) and streamline some other features. I prefer ProScan as my third-party software for the SDS series.

ProScan contains a built-in web server that allows you to monitor and control your scanner from anywhere you have Internet or Wi-Fi connection. You can monitor and control your scanner from your smart phone or any other computer.

So original poster, from your question in post 1, it looks like you are going to use a rooftop with RG6 coax. You will be using the SMA to BNC adapter as jtwalker said.

So your standard pl259 with a BNC adapter attached or preferably solder a BNC connection is what you can expect needed for your RG6 coax.

Be very very careful with that setup. Try to anchor the coax to a desk or a table with Gorilla Tape with plenty of play. You want to avoid damage or stress on that BNC adapter. It is kind of a recipe for disaster.

Why Pro voice? If you don't actually have a pro voice system in your area, I wouldn't waste the $$. It is getting rarer and rarer to find a Pro voice system...
Definitely agree.

The database only shows two EDACS systems in your state (Tennessee), both are businesses, and neither uses ProVoice.

+1 on the adapter from Jon at unidenscanners.com. I bought one and it works great for swapping antennas without worrying about wear and tear on my radio. Side note: I put black heat shrink on mine because I got tired of the gold. Trivial, I know, but I think it looks nice.
