havenBTS,

But there was nothing better than modifying a Pro-2004 or similar scanner to listen to analog cell phone calls!

and that is illegal, immoral, and very entertaining. i would never be caught doing it, and i wasn't !

I had the Pro-2022, advertised as "yes it is and yes it does" when I bought it on Ebay. The diode was already cut when I got it.

I certainly had my fun picking up not only the blue nokia cell phones that still existed at the time, but also the cordless phones in my apartment complex.

I even went so far as to put in a discriminator tap and start decoding pagers from the local hospitals, until one day I got all the gory details of someone with a rectal bleed.

That was too much information for me and I ended my voyeuristic ways.

99% of calls: "Guess where I'm calling you from? MY CAR! <giggle, giggle>"
1% of calls: "Yeah, I got the motel room. Just tell your husband you're going shopping or something."
"Yeah, ok, so 1 gallon of milk, two dozen eggs.. anything else?"
"We asked for them to give us more TPS reports..."
etc. etc.

The Cabelas in Hamburg PA seems to be using a voice over IP or ISM radio now.

It's a square pendant with the letter P on it with headphones attached to it.

I clicked on the call sign listed on this site for their apparent previous system and it is showing expired.
I didn't catch activity on the frequencies listed for it. I will submit this to the database here about the current status.
