So I have been always curious about the cable TV line that drapes from phone pole to phone pole and where the power comes from.
I saw that the larger box suspended from the wire is connected to the hot/neutral lines, but now I wonder, where is the power metered? I mean, does the cable company pay a flat rate? Is it metered somewhere else?

What and how is it done?

The feeder cable gets its Power from a Power Supply, the Power Supply is the Box that has connections to the Secondary.

Varies from Power Company, some PC's charge a flat rate. In other area's the Power Supply will be metered.

All of the above is correct, also there usually are batteries also in the boxes. The ones I have seen put out 48VDC. Around here they seldom service the batteries, so anyone relying on cable internet for phone service shouldn't wonder why the phone & internet go dead not long after a power failure starts---

True, then they bring out a Generator and attach it to the Power Supply.

But if its not a Honda, I usually shut it off because I dont want to listen to it when I am working.

The things you don't know. And here I thought we were good with a standard plug-in phone in case none of the cordless phones worked.

Thanks for the responses! :)
