If you're coming up to Cache Valley for the Cruise-in July 2-4 here's the lowdown on what to program.
Basically the links between the VHF and UCAN channels have been cut, so you'll need your UCAN trunked radios for the main info, cuz VHF use is gone. Today's word is deprecated - love that word!
What's a bit odd is they are still often using the VHF nomenclature on the UCAN channels.
What IS on VHF is the Fire paging 154.01 - it is NOT currently linked to TG 28832 - this may change soon but right now it is not. Once fire/EMS are paged, all comms are on UCAN. Also on VHF is some use of the UHP C2C or "3" on 154.745, tho most often they use the UCAN TG 4352. None of the "side" VHF channels are in use - Patrol, Cache South, Cache North, SAR, small cities etc - all gone from VHF. Occasionally UDOT channel 151.235 will be used "up the canyon" but less so with UCAN's coverage.
The VHF "wildcard" is whether they will put up their VHF "Event repeaters" that were only put into service maybe 2 yrs ago - so look for comms on Event 1 153.875, Event 2 154.825 and Event 3 151.085. On VHF is still stuff like Parks and Recreation, Electric Department, road crew, Water dept, Jail internal ops (tho access on UCAN) etc, but no Police/Fire/EMS except the paging.
Back to UCAN, the Cache Dispatch Center is sure to assign one or two of the Ops channels for the Cruise in - and for fireworks. It would be good to have all 5 in the scanner - see the Cache Co section of the Database. Cache SO C2C (aka "2") TG 28736 is likely to be active too for chit-chat.
Interestingly Logan Peak and CV Simo are each 5 channel sites, with one of the channels as control, meaning only 4 talk channels available. I have seen several times when all 4 are busy...meaning a 5th request would be "busy." It will be interesting to see loading during Cruise-in weekend.
If you want to hear some 700 MHz digital comms, program the Lava Hot Springs site on IIMARS and you'll hear Bannock County ID quite nicely in much of Cache Co.
Thanks for coming up and spend a lot of money in the town!

- UCAN LAW 1 = TG 16000 = former "Regional Channel = Cache SO, (delta units) UHP dispatch, deprecated from 154.725
- UCAN LAW 2 = TG 28704 = former "Service Channel" = LCPD (Sierra units), N Park (Tango), Smithfld disp (Zulu), deprecated from 155.655
