CalFire CDF Cal Fire facility19_1.gdb

Various communications sites are listed with lats / longs and X Y coords - some Tones are listed - some federal sites are shown - listed as TYPE "COM" or "COM/LO"

notes - (best guesses)
V = volunteer
FSL = fire station local
FSA = schedule A station - cal fire structural
FSB = schedule B station = cal fire brush

This list also contains multiple county owned fire stations - maybe it contains all of the "Green Book" stations - (aka stations that receive state funding or state dispatch services) - for example - Bakersfield FD stations are listed - not quite sure why - maybe because Kern County is state funded and maybe Kern County has an auto aid agreement with Bakersfield FD

BTU = state owned stations in Butte County
BUT = county owned stations in Butte County

MPA 34 - El Portal Station - FSL - county owned - vols - 5518 Foresta Rd - (this must be the El Portal structural fire station in Yosemite National Park)

just noticed that the Campo Station in San Diego is listed twice - same address - same phone number - listed as sta 46 and sta 40 - listed as state owned and listed as county owned - interesting

could the State and County be co-owners of the land and building?

Interesting, but CDF has been slowly taking over all the SD county stations, you can see the Cal Div of Forestry emblem on all the County fire stations and county fire apparatus. I should call the number and see who answers...my guess it it will be a CDF employee.

re Campo Fire Station - checking Google Maps Street View - the street view is from 2019 - 3 bay station - sign says Cal Fire Sta 40 in cooperation with San Diego County Fire - one TY3 engine can be seen in a bay - and there is an attached photo of a big pumper tanker from San Diego County Fire

per the FDID list from the State Fire Marshall dated 8/31/2021 - there is a Campo FD - but there is no Campo Indian FD - but there is a FDID for Heartland Communications - and Heartland Comms does dispatch Campo Indian FD

and the rabbit holes keep piling up lol

re El Portal fire stations in Yosemite Natl Park

using the Mariposa County First Responder Atlas (which is online) was able to figure out 2 of the fire stations in El Portal - 2007 street view shows both of them - both are 3 bay garages - the one on Foresta Road is NPS Structural and Mariposa County 34 - the one on Rail Road St is NPS Wildland Fire

the NPS HQ is approx 1/3 mile to west of there - there might be some fire offices there - and maybe the Park 911 Center

Thanks, norcalscan, for the list of definitions of the abbreviations for the station types.
Taking a look at Ventura County (VNC):
1. Not nearly all the county FS are listed.
2. Those listed are FSCC , county contract funded.
3. Just wondering why the other VNC FS aren’t listed along with their station types.

FSCC means in this case that CAL FIRE is paying the local agency a portion of the cost to run that engine since that engine responds into the SRA for vegetation fires. An example may be CAL FIRE pays for the captain position while the local agency pays for the rest of the crew of that engine. It could be some other variation too. It is all negotiated into the agreement.

I am not sure why VNC only lists the CAL FIRE funded stations while other counties fire stations that are not funded are on the list. It could be an oversight, how the agreements were drawn up or how CAL FIRE pays for things within each county. There are probably things we just don't know about the funding.

Santa Barbara County information obsolete (stations renumbered) and incomplete (apparatus lists out of date). Municipal and independent fire districts not shown even though they cover the SRA. Funding information make no sense.

We don't know when this spreadsheet was generated. It was probably prior to the number change. Big government is always slow to change things too.

Municipal and independent fire districts not shown even though they cover the SRA.

They may have been left off on accident or purpose. We don't know. Is it that important in a scanner forum?

Funding information make no sense.

My explanation or the spreadsheet?

CalFire funding in Santa Barbara and other non-CalFire counties is not on a station by station basis. It is simply paid to the county to reimburse it for the cost of fire protection in the SRA.

Granted we don't know when this spreadsheet was generated, but it should be kept up to date. Otherwise it is random noise. The RR database is usually up to date because it is supported by users who contribute information.

Clearly a lot of work went into this sheet. All information can be useful and this database is interesting. Just not as useful as it could be.

Municipal and independent fire district information is important in a scanner forum. Especially in non-CalFire counties.

CAL FIRE funds for all sorts of positions. From dispatch to firefighters to fire prevention. This came from a SBC document.

Santa Barbara County Fire has a contractual agreement with CAL FIRE to provide wildland fire protection on state responsibility areas (SRA). The Gray Book is an Exhibit of the “Contract County Agreement” which identifies resource allocations, which CAL FIRE considers necessary for the protection of SRA and provides funding accordingly. In Santa Barbara County, the Gray Book provides for nine stations, two bulldozers, two vegetation management positions, and fire prevention staffing

Here is the breakdown for each contract county (PY 2016-2017).
