Anybody got a grip on what 9808 is? I've been hearing lots of chatter on it this morning. One exchange mentioned putting flags up and issuing restrictions which leads me to believe it's rail related. Sounds like an iDEN patch to me, too, with the answerback beep and the double digital modulation sound.

Jay,
This is one of Calgary Transit LRT Operation/Dispatch channels and yes some of the transmissions sound like they just inhaled helium or an underwater diver speaking.

There's licenses in the 850 and 860 MHz range in Spectrum Manglement for Calgary Transit in select areas of the city - don't read too much into those licenses. They are bi-directional amplifiers to get the signal into the tunnels, I believe.

I've heard a couple of the 10000 series TGs fairly active including one which had definite rail "talk" on it. Once I'm done watching the recording of the Jays embarrass Texas this afternoon, I'll do some playback of my scanner recordings and see what the TGs are for.

TG 10016 is LRT Signals Maintenance
TG 9824 is full of LRT operators booking on and off, identifying their train consists and where they're parking (or leaving from)
TG 9840 is in testing and was identified as "LRT 4"

Has City of Calgary -Works/Roads Dept./Parks Dept. switched over to the Calgary Municipal Radio Network 800 mhz P25 or are they still using the Mike radio ?
Also, is Calgary Transit Peace Officers switching or have they switched over to the CT LRT/Buses radio group ?

Thxs

MiKE radios are absolutely dead & gone. The service is being switched off and dismantled at the end of this month.

I can't speak to the agencies mentioned (I don't know and even if I could, I couldn't share), but other previous iDEN users are now using/looking at PTT-over-LTE, which is the modern equivalent of MiKE (iDEN) - and before anyone asks, no, it's not scannable.

CTS on site 8?

Is anybody hearing a trunking marker on 852.5875 identifying as 753f site 8? I'm seeing CTS traffic only.

I'm well South of Calgary using a homebrew parabola pointed at SHC . It's only peer in Unitrunker is Bankers Hall. Unitrunker shows the type as SmartZone 851. I've a few hours of call history accumulated now showing only CTS traffic so far. Intriguing.

I've put it in my 436 with a range of 60 miles centered on 51,-114. I'll see what I get. Could be a site at the same location as another with bandwidth to accommodate transit's added load on the system.

I think this is probably in the south half of the city. My travels this week have all been north of Glenmore and I don't really get the signal all that well - picked it up at about 50% on Thursday morning at Deerfoot & Glenmore for a fleeting moment.

If I were a betting man I'd wager it was somewhere along the rail corridor between Cemetery Hill and Anderson. That area is probably underserved by Banker's, Fish Creek, and the Campus.

I will be along that area on Sunday, I think - we'll see what i get then.

Interesting - I drove Macleod from Glenmore to 162 and back over the course of Sunday afternoon, and no area really stood out with a strong signal on my 436. I really would have figured it would be in that area.

One of you guys with Unitrunker who can log this site might want to either post the confirmed frequencies either here or in a submission to the RRDB...

A bit of a mystery still. See attached for a list of confirmed freq's.

I've noticed an interesting behaviour. This site seems to reject affiliations from CPS, CFD and Enmax users and allow CTS only. Blue is CPS,Red CFD and Black is Enmax. This has been consistent over several days.

Interesting on a number of levels...

I'm having a strange problem keeping the site in my 436's programming - or, at least, it's in the programming, but seems to show up only when it wants to. Its location settings ensures that it should be visible no matter where I am (my radio is GPS equipped and the site has settings to make it available 60 miles around Calgary's center), but it's not showing up in the analyze menu unless I physically edit it within the radio. I'll have to fiddle with that sometime soon.

I'll keep checking for the site as I drive around town. I see you have quite a strong signal in that screencap. Did you say this is on a directional antenna pointed at the Campus?

Sorry for the confusion. The other night I found the signal much weaker on the gain antenna and switched to the unity gain discone which is where the screen cap came from. Tonight I can barely make it out on the gain antenna and find it weaker on the discone though I am getting a good decode rate*. Are we looking at some sort of mini SOW being used to assess a potential new tower location? My guess is well West of SHC but somewhere in South Calgary.

* I'm really impressed with the newer generation R820 based SDR dongles with the 1 ppm TXCO.

Yesterday while northbound on the Deerfoot over the Calf Robe, I got a CC bleeding over onto a CFD 800 MHz simplex frequency that's in my scanner (in the 856 MHz range). I get similar bleedover on Stoney next to Spy Hill where the AFRRCS and CMRN towers are. I am thinking maybe there might be something worth looking at in Bonnybrook or Alyth. If my cards come up right tomorrow I'll give the area a drive-through (I was busy today Christmas shopping elsewhere).

There are licenses in IC records (TAFL) for some of the freqs, in the various tunnels and maintenance shops, but then again there are licenses for the existing system freqs in those areas too, so that's not much of a telltale sign.
