Just a reminder and heads up.

March 18th and 19th ( sat / sun )
Mather Airport
Rancho Cordova,CA
( near Sacramento,CA )

Expect some scanning equally as awesome as the airshow.

It will be a very large scale law enforcement event, down to the local level.
The primary agency will be the Sacramento Sheriff's Dept with two dedicated dispatchers.
I'm sure there will be radio traffic from State and Federal Law Enf. agencies.

Be sure to fire up your scanners prior to the event. Normally for the week prior to the event there is a fly-in Aircraft constantly making their way to the airport to prep for the coming weekend. Additionally I'm certain that Law Enf agencies will be doing security prep well before the event.

Just like most air shows, there are booths to browse and vendors to take your money. At this time there will also be a few Law Enf booths to recruit and do the meet-and-greet thing.

All of this equates to an enormous amount of radio traffic in the area.
If you've got a FRS, make sure it has PL tones! HA!

It's about a month away so make arrangements now!

Anyone want to meet up and set up a 'monitoring post'? :)

I've not scanned in the Sac area, so I've got a lot to learn...

Do you have any idea which frequencies and/or talkgroups we would want to monitor?

I don't have any specific details regarding which SSD channels will be dedicated to the air show.

Some possibilities..

Tac 4,5,6
9328
9360
9392

County Tac channels
6672
6704
6736
6768
6800
6832
6864
6896
6928

I'd listen to some of the simplex freqs too

Glad to see El Dorado County well represented!! Julie Clark and Chuck Lisher both making the long haul from Cameron Park International Airport. (UNICOM 123.050)

I plan on attending...my dad is a pilot and lives in nearby Rancho Cordova.

I'm sure everyone's scanners and freq. counters will be alive w/ action!

I just might be an uber geek and have two scanners on me.
One for scanning, the other for Close Call with Auto Store.....

I'll be easy to spot, the one wearing the foil hat :)

I think we'll be hanging out in the parking lot or if we get run off, a place nearby where we can enjoy the show, but employ the full scale arsenal of freq counters, comm receivers, scanners, etc. (etc. including beer).

In the last week seen SOMEONE practicing stall turns SSE of Shingle Springs with smoke on several times.

Should be fun!

I'm down. I may have to leave a little early on Saturday (for work).

Does anyone have a vendor tent? we could represent RR.com! I'd be willing to bring some folding chairs, and make a sign.

someone could bring a couple tables.

we could set up in the parking lot, or right outside the parking lot.

was that plane that was involved in the plane crash in roseville, possibly practicing for this airshow?

No this guy actually knows what he is doing. And a much safer altitude.

p.s. Thanks Antfreq for the website!

March editions of Popular Communications and Monitoring Times spotlight Air Shows. There are tons and tons of frequencies in these two magz!

I'm gonna have to program a ton of stuff into my 396T by the end of March.

Does the website say anything about scanners not being allowed? I remember that went I went to the Travis show with my radio, they weren't going to let me in. I convinced them though.

Doesn't mention it, but I'm not worried about it. If it comes down to it - I'll spend a few minutes looking at the static displays, then spend the rest of the time in the parking lot or adjacent area. Sheesh - even rent a high up room at Mariott and demand a window facing the airport! HA

Unless it's closed by the Navy, the park at Douglas and Eagle's Nest will be open...probably $5 parking, but I'm sure something could be worked out if it's an area conducive to scanning.

Does anyone know what the safety zone will be?

did some research,

apparently it's being run by AirSupport LLC out of New York State.

I made some calls to AirSupport confirm whether scanners will be allowed in and hopefully i'll get a response later today. :)
