Definitely not Mt. Bullion from Sonoma County in the Bay Area. That would be a WIDE open skip if it was!!

Yes, skip on an 858 MHz frequency would be pretty tough on all the users below that frequency. In fact, it sounds a bit like an apocalyptic scenario to me.

It isn't UC. There have been several attempts to 'give back' that frequency over the years, but the home office just keeps renewing it.

The license shows the University of California, if "it isn't UC," who is it? Whose home office keeps renewing it?

UC = University of California. Usually the licensee is listed as "The Regents of the University of California", but not always. They've had some variances in that over the years.
UCOP, University of California Office of the President in Oakland has an analyst who's job it is to manage FCC licenses. I have e-mails going back to 2012 where I discussed this frequency with them on several occasions. I was going to use it for an application, but was told they were going to give it back. But staff churn and "it's just easier to renew it" keeps these things on the books. I'm not aware of any of the UC campuses actively using it anywhere in the state.

858.7625 is the control channel for the CalTrans District 4 Motorola Smartnet system on Big Rock Ridge.

I'm aware, but UniTrunker didn't show it as a Type II system when I was down that way today. I wonder about the other frequencies too...Maybe it is and this was just a fluke hearing it up here!

Well, I guess CalTrans isn't doing anything special after all...This morning while running UniTrunker, the D4-North system popped up normally...

This site is probably worth keeping an ear on though, as well as the San Leandro Hill site, they did add P25 to the licenses so it's likely they will go P25 at some point.

They are also making a lot of microwave modifications at "DOT" sites in the bay area, one in particular is Oakland DOT to Yerba Buena, which both of the trunking sites have on the license as input locations.

Agreed! I just hope someone closer can keep a better ear to it than I can from Cloverdale!
