I recently purchased an HP436D and am having 1 minor issue. I am attempting to scan the Primary truck-truck channel in Campbell County Fire. I see it is listed twice in the database, but haven't had anything come across either instance. Does anyone have any ideas?

I don't know your level of knowledge, so I'll presume you are new to the hobby. If you are an old veteran at it, I apologize for being too fundamental.

The 154.8600/173.8 "version" is a repeated frequency, so if you are in Campbell or an adjacent county, I'd think reception should not be an issue. It is licensed for 100 watts (repeater), which is plenty of horsepower. Repeaters re-broadcast transmissions at higher power so more folks can hear them.

The 154.8600/192.8 "version" is a talkaround channel, meaning it is unit to unit on the frequency (no repeater involved). Most likely, you'd have to be within a mile or two to hear all units on that, as portables are 3-5 Watts of power.

My first suspicion, assuming you are in Campbell County, is that they have changed the CTCSS for the frequencies and the database has not be updated.

Hopefully you have set this up in a Favorites List. I suggest setting the Audio Option to Search and see what comes up. You may see two values if they continue to use it in repeated and talkaround modes. You should be able to tell which is talkaround (aka Simplex) and which is repeated. The repeated version will have both sides of the conversation equally strong (generally speaking). The talkaround side may come in very scratchy or broken (if you can even hear them due to distance).

I find the 154.8600/173.8 "version" is received very well in the Cincinnati suburbs on a couple of older scanners that I have. I'm not sure where the tower & transmitter are located there, but it comes in loud and clear.

Interesting that one of the towers is located in Ohio - in New Richmond. Actually, it's a good location because it's right across the Ohio River from Campbell County and must certainly help cover the area.

It definitely helps. I recall a time when it was down and we were having a lot of trouble with dead spots over the eastern and southern areas of the county.

There are Ohio MARCS sites in Greenup, KY and Huntington, WV. In Scioto and Lawrence Counties this is the only way to cover the river valley side of the counties. I believe there was talk at one time of adding an Ohio MARCS site in Boone County, KY.
