It's possible. The CLAWR site(knowing where it is) and how strong the control channel was at CFB Cold Lake during the Airshow a couple weeks ago, it's likely a mid to high power site. This may be just because of the size of the CLAWR though. If the system is designed to cover the base and not much more then it could be a low power system depending on coverage requirements.

I'll see if i can get out there sometime this week to listen to it, as well as talk to my radio tech source who works at the base. just seems odd the MPs would be one one system (the provincial) and not on their dedicated system.

I just heard back from my radio tech source at 15 Wing. That frequency isn't used at the base. The only p25 radios they have at the moment are for the Military Police and they are on the PPSTN system. As far as he heard, there are no plans yet for a p25 system at the base. Just the one and the standard VHF, UHF frequencies.

Granted, that's not saying Bombardier, or ATCO/Frontenac haven't put their own system in place. Currently only p25 DND radios at 15 Wing are MP/commissionaires .
I will try to get out to the base next week during my holidays to see if I can find more detail on that control channel

Control Channel removed until you report back with the answer.

I believe the system ID reported was 5de which makes it highly doubtful a contractor installed out for their own use. This is the same system installed at other military bases for military use and uses one central controller.

If you get out that way, have a listen. Perhaps your source won't be involved until they start moving base units over to it.

Looks like Tuesday I'll get out there to see what I can find. The only Military persons at 15 Wing are MPs, ,some pilot instructors ,Wing Command Staff and the Snowbirds team/support. Pretty much everything else from tower, to ground control, A/C and Building maintenance and even ARFF / Base Rescue is all civilian contractor since the base was leased to NFTC. It could be DND is providing the system for them and since they have their own radio techs, my contact dosen't have access to that info yet. He only looks after the DND radios. For all intents and purposes 15 Wing is military only in name and fact DND owns the land and Snowbird facilities, everything else is leased by Bombardier and ATCO including the PMQs.

I wonder... Since Canadian Forces Camp Dundurn is detached to 15 Wing, and it is a shooting and artillery range amongst other things, if perhaps Dundurn has a tower as well and is linked ( or will be linked) to 15 Wing?

I noticed in the system, one of the counties listed was NB-UNKNOWN. I have removed this. If the admin who put it there would like it back, please do so. Apologies if you did not want this removed.

The other 2 counties for NB are correct.

That is very possible. 4 Wing has a site on the air field, and also has a site somewhere up around the CLAWR as well.

I got out to 15 Wing today. Spent 1/2 hour sitting in the Canex parking lot. I had both a psr-800 and BCD396xt monitoring the reported frequency of 148.78. there was nothing but dead air on the channel. not even a control signal.

current assumption: when BCScan came through, they may of been testing , but the site is not currently in operation..yet.

I'll keep a ear open for it

10326 some type of Fire activity on this talk group for CFB Petawawa lately. Using this talk group while fighting fires on the edge of the range and Algonquin Park.

10320 - 10329 are probably all Base Fire channels.

If you go back, scan from 138-174. The system may change control channels to spread the load out onto each repeater that makes up a site. Just because you heard nothing on that channel, does not mean the system was not on the air.

next time i am out there i will scan the full trunk band. i just focused on that channel as it was reported to be control. I didnt have time to actually set up the computer to decode any found control channels (theres up to 3 p25 systems in the area not counting the base)

:)
