To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Can't get KNG 150 to go into bootloader mode

Hello,

I'm a novice, and trying to program my KNG P150. I've purchased the programming software, but can't get my radio to go into bootloader mode. If any of you can help me, I'd be grateful.

I've tried the regular method, of holding the PTT button while powering on, and that doesn't work. The radio just boots normally. I've also tried removing the battery, having the power switch on, and holding the PTT button while installing the battery, and that doesn't work, either.

I can get other KNG radios to go into bootloader mode, so I don't thaik that its me doing the procedure the wrong way.

I have an old firmware version, so I have to use the older program, but can't read or write to the radio. I would be grateful if any of you could help me out.

Thank you in advance,

Dave

Is it an S model? Is the display color or mono? Mono would be an S version. The KNG-P150S uses BK Radio KNG Editor, and the KNG-P150 and KNG2-P150 use RES. You don't need to go into boot mode to program, just to flash f/w.
