Florida has a statewide EDACS systems that is ESK, ProVoice, and mostly encrypted. On rare occasion, there will be something in the clear. So I wanted to try programming it into the PSR-800, but EZ-Scan won't allow it. It is X'd out to where it can't be selected. Why? Isn't the PSR-800 capable of ESK? I can use the discriminator tap out with DSD+ for monitoring.

The newer P25 system (still being built) can be selected, but not the current ESK system. Why?

Not ProVoice so you can't Import/download it but you can put it in manually.

Well, that's a shame because the PSR-800 has a built-in discriminator tap. It's too bad the database (or the software?) doesn't make this system available for download. Just because it's ProVoice shouldn't preclude it. Some systems are a mixture of analog and ProVoice and it lets you download and program those. So why not this one?

Hello,

SLERS uses EDACS Extended Addressing (EA), which changes the over-the-air protocol to support more sites, talkgroups, and radio ids. The PSR-800 will not decode it. The best you can do is hook the IF Output into Unitrunker.

The only scanner that can decode it is the Uniden BCDx36HP with the Provoice option. Even though EA, and Provoice are separate features of an EDACS system, the scanner does not appear to decode EA without buying the Provoice option.

ESK is a different way of structuring the control channel data. EA adds the capability to have more sites, talkgroups, and radio ids. Apples and oranges.

Hello,

An EDACS EA system shows up as Site 33 through 63 on a non-EA EDACS decoder. Non-EA EDACS supported about 28 sites, so the designers reused the high order bit of the site id to indicate EA. This causes confusion as users assume their scanner is not working due to ESK as the scanner indicates a EDACS site.
