I'm using Proscan to create a single Favorite in my Uniden BCD536HP Scanner. Everything is good to go until I go to the Scanner/Write menu - it tells me to Select at Least One Row, however; there's no rows to select. So I hit ok and hit the button to send MSM command to the scanner and I get a message "Scanner Must Be Communicating.". I double checked the com port is working, and I selected the correct model scanner, so all that is good. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Gene (K7GHZ)

You are trying to send over WIFI MSM Command is used over the network.
Click on help READ THE MANUAL it will explain it all.
#1. Plug up the USB Cable.
#2. When ask push Y/YES
#3. Wait like 10 to 15 Seconds.
#4. Send Programming to Scanner.
#5. When finished and prompted unplug USB Cable.
#6. Listen to Scanner.

If I recall, you need to be sure that you have set the scanner for programming, it is not automatic. With it plugged in to the computer, power it on. Follow the directions on the scanner screen. You should then see a line in the Proscan window for sending or receiving from the scanner.

I am in Mass Storage Mode but like I said, there's no rows to select when I go to write to scanner.

The only option I have is Scanner Write; there's no FTP Scanner Write menu. I give up - don't want to burn any more time on this. I bought the SDS200 last week and it's soooo much easier to use. I had it set up and running with my favorites list inside of about 10 minutes and have been using it happily ever since. I was planning on setting up this scanner for my area of Maricopa County where I work and running it during the day in my shop where I'm the only radio tech, but I think what I'm going to do is just enter the zip code down there and restrict the miles to around 10 or so, so it's not scanning too many frequencies because it is fairly populated in that area of the valley. I hate to give up so easily but I can play with it at work during lunch. I've got too many things to do today and I know how these things go when I get hung up on problems like this - I'll get hooked on it and the next thing I know I'll look up at the clock and it'll be 01:00 in the morning.

Anyway buddrousa thanks for your help and I'll let you know when I figure it out.

Hit the Refresh button. If you still don't see the scanner then go to the File Explorer and see if the scanner drive shows there?
FTP write & read shows only when the scanner type is set to SDS200.

How are you connecting to the 536hp? Are you using USB - or are you using the wifi? Have you set up the comm port settings in the Comm Port tab?

Com Port is set up. I'm using the USB from the front. For whatever reason, the laptop isn't seeing the scanner no matter what I do. I've tried' everything. The scanner knows it's connected but the laptop just doesn't see it.

Are you running Windows 11? I had similar issues with any Uniden scanner until I got all of the .net framework updates.

No I haven't. I only have the one cable - I'd have to order another because of course each of my three scanners takes a different kind of usb cable. It's worth a try though.

Frizzle - I'm running Windows 10 on this laptop. I tried it on my newer laptop which is running 11 and got the same result though.

I bought the scanner used at the Yuma SW Division ARRL Hamfest and it didn't come with the USB cable, only the AC power supply. I ordered the USB cable but I can't remember where I ordered it from. Yeah you're right, if it's one of those proprietary cables with a chip in it that could very well be the reason it's not working. I'll order a new cable, preferably from Uniden if they have them in stock, and see if that does the trick. I thought that's where I ordered it from but I can't remember my password and when I tried to get a new one and they said they emailed it to me nothing came so maybe I didn't order it from them. I'll get one from them this time tough.

buddrousa I believe you're right. I looked very closely at the cable I have and the one listed on the Uniden site and the Uniden cable looks a bit different. It has a rectangular section in the center that mine doesn't have and say's its for a USB to RS232. If I'm remembering correctly a RS232 is a serial cable. My cable is just a USB to another type of USB that fits the front of the scanner but perhaps it's the wrong type, I just don't remember - I thought I bought the correct type. Well anyway I'll keep my fingers crossed and let you know if it works - I just ordered the Uniden cable. That'll be great if it does.
