CANTON, Mich. -- Beefing up its radio communications, the Canton Public Safety Department is expected to gradually switch during the next year to a new 800 MHz system that improves a critical tool used by police officers and firefighters, links to a statewide network and adheres to federal-level changes mandated by Jan. 1, 2013.
