Strong interference on CANWARN frequency 145.4700 and 145.4500, It was so saturated and strong that I had to attenuate and even then it still was saturated. The 145.4500 is the one I alway's have it on. It was a FM or TV program on that frequency, intermittent strong signal that could really get in the way during a severe storm.

From what I've heard from Canwarn in Southern Ontario over the years, it probably wouldn't be that big of a loss.

Unless endless "it's really raining here" and "the clouds look kinda black" reports are useful in a meteorological standpoint.

I find that the Ham radio people are doing a great job, they cover a large area and track the storm, but it's Enviroment Canada that does not respond to it, especially on week ends, putting out condition red four hours later then what it should have been.Beside's the radar, it's the first station I lock it on to during a severe storm,it tells me were the worst hit area's of the storm's are, not that that does me any good, except to go for a drive later.

Condition Red is a Canwarn net condition and has nothing to do with Environment Canada.

It's up to the Canwarn Net Controller to put the net into the proper condition.

After reading this thread I added the CANWARN freq's to check them out. So far nothing heard on 145.470. On 145.450 other than the recorded automated call sign I have not heard any weather related talk. All I've heard is 3-4 people regularly using the channel for private non weather related discussions.

Try 146.6850Mhz which is from Shelburne and probably closer then 145.470Mhz which is in Aurora.

The group in Toronto is decent and runs a pretty tight ship. Could be because the Severe Weather Desk is in Downsview.

I normally listen to the ULR hub at 442.025. A close second would be ZAP in Shelburne. Technically I should be listening to PRC but they rarely link it in to ULR for severe weather.

Back to the interference, must be a signal skip from some were. For storm monitoring, don't think there is much else I can pickup here in Strathroy?

Actually they are, with the exception of webcams there aren't too many ways to actually see what is happening in a location a ways away from the weather office.
