It was posted on the Yahoo Group Phillyscanner last night that the CAP (Civil Air Patrol) has requested that all of it's frequencies assigned by the USAF be removed from publication.

I didn't get the address of the article, but maybe somone here knows about this.

More Homeland lunacy.....Oops, I meant Security.......

Not to worry, they say it's for our own good........

Gee, I guess that we'll just all have to foget we've ever noted these and remove them from human as well as scanner memory. Cadet operations, search and rescue, and other CAP administrative and operational frequencies have nothing "sensitive" about them. They do not escort Air Force One nor Mikey Chertoff's parrotkeet nor do they interdict illegal aliens or narcotics peddlers. They are civilians acting as an Auxiliary of the Air Force. What's next, Coast Guard Auxiliary (also on the fringe of 2 meters) on well published marine frequencies. How about my Boy Scout Troop? Their comments on GMRS and FRS are about probably about as dangerous to national security as the very useful Civil Air Patrol mission activities. They are great people but let's get real here. Pretty soon Public Broadcasting station frequencies will be next because intellegent comment and "foreign" classical music is played. Institutional paranoia uber alles Y'all.

A very bad case of paranoia and maybe deservedly so, with some of the other frequency information they want removed, but Civil Air Patrol ? I don't think so. As for the other frequency information that's posted, this woman needs to be reminded that we have scanners that are capable of "searching' for frequencies, and anyone with any knowledge at all about armed forces operations, including terrorists (who I am sure access this site on a daily basis, yeah right !) would probably be able to identify exactly what they're hearing if they should stumble on those frequencies while "searching". If a terrorist or some other nut case wants this, or any other information to aid him in his mission to wreak havoc, he or she WILL get it, one way or another, as was proven on 9-11. They don't need Radioreference. She may be paranoid, and Lindsay may be forced to remove the infromation, but in my opinion, it's all for naught. As Groucho Marx used to say "that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard".

Then there is the question as to how "official" you consider a GS12 to be.

I normally consider someone who is a General Officer or Senior Executive Service to be "official".

Just my 0.02.

The GS-12 in question is probably the Public Affairs Officer for the General (El Jefe). You don't think he actually writes his own public pronouncements? Gotta have someone to blame if it backfires.

The entire request is really nonsensical. Anyone who really wants to get the base frequencies (regardless of the legitimacy of their intent) can just go nearby with a trunk tracker for a couple of hours or an overnight at a local squeaky springs motel and oua la, radio listing in full.

seamusg, I DID read YOUR post and the letter you provided the link for, but I was referring to the letter in MY post, also the one that jks19714 was referring to, which was signed by Judy Alexandria, GS-12. THAT'S what I was referring to in my comment, and btw, it was just a little sarcasm. It had nothing to do with YOUR post about the letter signed by the Major General, CAP.

Maj. Gen. Antonio Pineda is the CAP National Commander. In my opinion, he's not doing a very good job as cational commander. I didn't even hear of him until my commanding officer informed my squadron about the change of command. He has made all of these weird policies and changes that just come up out of the blue. This is the first I have heard of this communications request.
