I'm willing to bet there are more "non-standard" dipoles and OCFD's out there than perfectly straight ones. Being in a slightly horizontal V or having some ends turned one way or another won't substantively change things. The bands have been really weird lately. We've had frequent geomagnetic storms, so it's been noisy, and the bands have been short, so getting DX has been tough.
Whenever you change HF antennas don't base their performance on just a few days. I once put up a new trap dipole and when I turned on the radio it was dead silent. I was losing my mind thinking I'd done something wrong only to find out that while I was outside putting it up, we got hit by a huge X class solar flair and the entire spectrum was dead. I didn't figure it out for almost an hour when the bands started to come back, and everyone was commenting on it!
