• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

PSP has at least two units with cobra 29's in them. We just had some trouble tickets on them for no TX/RX .
So I'm in Bucks County and we have Trevose barracks and Turnpike District 4 both encrypted of course, I assume they're not involved with the two cars that are CB equipped, I no longer hear the VHF high from Trevose Barracks anymore either. I wonder if Trevose barracks monitors any CB, I'm near the turnpike Bridge, Route 13 and good earshot of Bordentown, New Jersey truck stops, 95 and 295.

With my setup I never hear anything on 9 or 19... even the mental patients whistling and rambling all day from the area of Route 13 and the Turnpike have been gone for over a decade.

Reading and Hamburg were the two vehicle barracks. I believe the troopers were special detail as they were take home vehicles ( probably motor carrier detail) . I thought in my
head that there was probably nothing wrong with the radios and it’s just a lack of activity when the tech called me asking some questions about frequencies to test…….

MA does not, State PD still has low band in the cruisers as a back up and talkaround. Some Commercial Enforcement (Truck Team) cruisers have CB’s and monitor CH19. There are some that don’t. They use mag mount antennas.

WA still might have them. CHP does not. Most truck drivers dont use them anymore
MA does not monitor ch9 the whip antenna on the state police and environmental police vehicles is for low band backup and short range comes when not using the smart net trunk system .
As niceguy71 said ch9 has been taken over and is a Super Bowl channel now.

The days of ch 9 for emergency comms and ch13 for the coast guard are long gone.

Twenty years ago, there were no CB radios in the CHP Communications Centers. CB radios were installed in the Commercial Enforcement Trucks for communication with the Truckers to direct/instruct them where to pull over or for other related enforcement communication at the Officer's discretion.

At that time, I would guess that there were no more than a handful of Patrol Units statewide that had a CB radio installed. Also, at that time, there were plenty of room inside the vehicle to install a CB radio because all the radios, emergency lights/siren, radar, and MDC were consolidated into a system consisting of a Screen, Keyboard, and the Microphone. The day when the Patrol vehicle had multiple radio control heads were gone by then. The Computer CPU/Controller was in the Trunk.

Some Inspection Facilities and Platform Scales had CB radios, but none of them monitored Ch. 9. They were usually monitoring Ch. 15, 17 or 19, the Trucker's Channel, depending on their specific location. I don't believe anyone monitored the Trucker's channel 21 in Souther California.

Believe it or not, there is still a road sign on eastbound I-70 just inside Ohio when you enter from Indiana that states that the state police monitor Ch. 9 complete with their KNN…. CB callsign. I’ve passed it for years on my way to Dayton Hamvention and I always have a chuckle when I see it.

No, I didn't try it. No idea -who- monitors it, if they still do, or if I'd rely on it.

Ohio has Uniden 510s. Nobody monitors CH9 they are in there so troopers can talk to drivers when they run wide load escorts.

"Highway Patrol Monitors CB Channel 9, KNN-3083" signs are still on the major interstates at the state line, but these are slowly coming down for obvious reasons.

Hope they put those on GovDeals when they come down...
