To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have recently purchased an MC3000 desk set for my CDM1550. I have everything connected as shown in the manual using standard RG45 cable. However, I have no display or power on the desk set. I have checked the connection of the ribbon cable to the remote head connector plate and it is seated. The same ribbon powers the dash mount head just fine. I do not have ignition sense configured or jumped on this radio. Do I need to do so to use the desk set?

Are you using an L3239 junction box or an L3208? Or are you wiring directly to the radio?

I've done it without the ignition sense before.
Did you check the power to your junction box?

I have power to the junction box. There's two solid indicators at all times. The indicators don't change when I attach the radio. Is the radio supposed to power on with the desk set or junction box attached?

The CAT5 pinout is not standard patch cable pinout. I think Motorola calls it mirror pinout.

I think my best bet will be to power the ignition sense and I'll have to replace the connector with the mirror pinout. I see what you're saying when I look at the manual.

You have to use the mirror cable from the MC3000 to the junction box. The manual references to use the L3239 for the LTR radios and the L3208 for Astro. The MC3000 does not have a means to power the radio on/off, so the radio has to remain powered up for the the MC3000 to display the channel info and function.

So I have everything in place but when the radio is powered up, I hear a faint radio power up tone through the desk set speaker and I have a low hum following that but no LCD display. Is this potentially due to the ribbon cable getting moved in the remote head adapter? The dash mount head works fine with the same ribbon. So far I have only changed the radio type setting to LTR as per the instructions for the CDM1550.

Correct, mine goes to the 25 pin LTR jack on the L3229 via an RJ45 to 25pin adapter. Alex, do you have this adapter? I have a switchbox so I can switch between my local CDM head, and the remote MC3000 head which is 5 floors below via a cat6 cable.
