Hi guys, hope I'm in a sufficient room. Heres the deal-- you know when you are about to get a phone call and if the phone is next to an analog phone, you hear sets of 3 -bursts- til the phone rings and the scanner lets out a --noise--? My pro 94 is no exception to that. Question is, when you get that signal and nothing happens, WHAT IS GOING ON? Is it transmitting your location every 15 minutes? Get that burs of 3, and goes away.. I thought it was updates, but thats ALOT of updates... Hmmm, we being tracked? Thanks, Ron

It's the phone registering with the system.
That's how the system knows that your phone is turned on and what cell site/control channel it is listening on so the system knows how to find it when you receive calls or data.
How often it happens depends on several things.
I left the cellular industry way before smart phones, GPS and the ability to triangulate for E911 so I don't know how often is normal.
I have a GSM dumb phone and it registers every hour.

Roger that sir, Noise drives me nuts. Time to sepparate the 2. Thx, but it is strange, noise does NOT intrude on the scanners that take PL's, dcs.....

Analog ?? No more Analog in the US, might you mean a POTS? aka Twisted Pair?

What you are hearing, is exactly like Tom mentioned. The RF from your Cellphone is getting into the Speaker wiring of your radios. You hear it from time-time during a Press Conference where everyone has been told and told-again to SHUT off (not silence) their cellphones and you hear the Ping signals getting into the Speaker-systems.

The same would likely occur when you key up any Two-way radio (Yes a Cellphone or PCS Phone is a Two-way radio)
