As to your comment about Nextel; it is certainly cellular, just as any networked trunking system is cellular, if you don’t understand how they work, then don’t make comments you can’t support.

Support it? OK. CELLULAR companies in the USA operate on FCC allocated frequencies of 824-849, and 869-894 MHz. There are two carriers ('A' and 'B' which is wireless and wireline - or so it used to be) in each area. Don't confuse cellular system design with the Cellular radio service. There is Cellular, PCS, GSM, IMTS (maybe some left somewhere) and other phone service providers. Of these only Cellular is Cellular. That is radio service CL - you will find that none of NexTel's licenses are CL. Most are YX (Trunked industrial) or something similar.

Enough support?

Hey guy's, you overlooked one thing. It is illegal to jam any frequencie in the USA. Jammers are not allowed and if used, the user will have a very hefty fine placed on them by the FCC. So think about what you guy's are arguing over.

Blocking is not jamming. Jamming requires another transmitter. We know what we are arguing over. Do you? It sounds like you don't since you think we are talking about jamming.

Here's an idea, if you install the panels, you must also post signs to the affect at all fire exits, so when the FD responds they'll know to go to defensive mode right away.... :D "Who brought marshmallows?!"

You've got that right. I wouldn't let anyone under my command go into an RF dead building. You said below 'ok seriously'. No - the above is completely serious and extremely likely.

OK seriously, why not just make that part of the fire inspection process? If the fire inspector can't do a radio check from inside the building then a sprinker system or other automated means of fire suppression must be installed for the building to pass the inspection. Easy enough, no?

Sprinklers aren't going to help the paramedics. They aren't going to help the PD who is inside with a terrorist pinned down, or who has THEM pinned down. You're only solving one part of the problem.

I agree with making it part of the building code. IF you block RF, you don't get an occupancy permit. After all, it's the city's radios you are blocking. Just as the argument that the owner can block your RF, the CITY can block your right to serve the public. It's THEIR right as a government.

The other big problem...

You know, cellphones and pagers are annoying in movies and restaurants when not set up for quiet alerting, but what bugs me more than these are cranky, screaming kids. I wonder if they can install panels that will shut them up, too. After all, they are no different than other annoyances, and you can't put them on vibrate mode. How do you solve THAT problem? 8)

How about a manual override setting!

They do, but it's a permanent setting and is illegal in the USA.
