Let him get his application "slam dunked" with the FCC and get the product to market so the lawsuits and injunctions filed by the carriers can start.

I hope they slam-dunk it into the trash.

We have enough issues with the "legal to sell, illegal to use" cell amplifiers.

Also they stated initially that it works within an 8 foot radius, then they state it will work throughout a 3000 square foot house. Well which is it? There is a big difference between the two.

I think what the Sham-Wo...I mean Magic Jack CEO is saying is that the 8ft radius is for the initial connection only, then the coverage expands to 3000 sq. ft.

I agree 100%. The carriers will tell you (as they have told us and I have told customers asking about them) that they will not support cell amplifier operation and further more will void the warranty on any data/voice device you bought from them to operate on their network. We had a large PS agency here in CO buy them (despite our advice) for their data cards and found that not only did they NOT improve reception, but in fact made it worse. Too much "skirting the rules" to make a buck rather than something truly innovative IMHO.

My other question on this device is will the phone always be operating at max power? If I'm not mistaken, in normal operation in connecting to the cell site, the site controller (?) will limit the phone's RF output to only what is need to maintain a connection. Is this correct and if so, what happens when a device now putting out 600 mW rather than 100mW interferes with other devices trying to connect with a nearby cell site?

Subscriber RF output based on RSSI, RSSI based on capture effect. Capture effect wins just like frequency re-use concept.

RSSI = Receive Signal Strength Indication. The subscriber's receiver associated circuitry outputs a signal that causes the subscriber transmitter to adjust its RF output power. The higher the RSSI the lower the RF transmit power.

<Wiki> In telecommunication, the capture effect, or FM capture effect, is a phenomenon associated with FM reception in which only the stronger of two signals at, or near, the same frequency will be demodulated.

The capture effect is defined as the complete suppression of the weaker signal at the receiver limiter (if it has one) where the weaker signal is not amplified, but attenuated. When both signals are nearly equal in strength, or are fading independently, the receiver may switch from one to the other and exhibit picket fencing.

Motorola Private Data Tac (dedicated-data - single frequency) work because of FM capture effect.

Now just learn a little about the power control protocol used in GSM, and the fact hat GMSK (GSMs modulation)is not FM and you might start figuring out where you went wrong.

Magic jack is nothing more than a scam not determined yet. In a matter of time it will be evident that this crap does not work where technology prevails!
