ARAPAHOE COUNTY AND CENTENNIAL SIGN AGREEMENT
FOR LONG TERM SHERIFF’S OFFICE SERVICES

On Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at 8:30 A.M., Sheriff Grayson Robinson, Arapahoe County Commissioner Jim Dyer and Centennial Mayor Randy Pye proudly announced that the City of Centennial, Arapahoe County and the Sheriff have signed an intergovernmental agreement to ensure that public safety services for the people of Centennial will continue to be provided by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office. The 10-year intergovernmental agreement, worth $19.5 million annually, will be in place through December 31, 2018.
Under the intergovernmental agreement, the Sheriff’s Office will continue to provide the people of Centennial with a full range of public safety services and programs that include patrol services, investigations, school resource officers, traffic education/enforcement, crime mapping, crime prevention, graffiti removal, online registered sex offender information, emergency management, and community emergency response training. The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office has consistently earned accredited status through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the American Corrections Association, the National Commission on Correctional Health Care and the County Sheriff’s of Colorado/Colorado Chiefs of Police. The Communications Center of the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, accredited in November of 2007, was the first Colorado public safety organization to earn communications center accreditation. Centennial was ranked the highest of any Colorado city in the 14th Annual Safest City Awards (2007) and was ranked 20th of all U.S. cities with a population in excess of 75,000. “The relationship between the City and the Sheriff’s Office continues to be a significant success. The feedback we’ve received from our residents is very supportive of the Sheriff’s commitment to Centennial,” said Mayor Randy Pye. “Centennial being named as the safest city in the state of Colorado two years in a row says it all. Our residents are safe and feel safe and that is due to the men and women of the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office. I am thrilled that the agreement is signed and the level of commitment is still as strong as ever.”

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office has provided law enforcement services to the City of Centennial since the City was incorporated in 2001. “Arapahoe County is pleased to once again be the provider of choice for law enforcement services for the citizens of the City of Centennial,” said Arapahoe County Commissioner Jim Dyer, who served as the lead negotiator for the Board of County Commissioners. “We at Arapahoe County are proud of the excellent services that we have provided to the City of Centennial since 2001 and we look forward to a continuing positive partnership with the second largest city of Arapahoe County for the next 10 years.”
Sheriff Robinson stated that “the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office is proud to have the opportunity to continue the long-standing public safety partnership with the City of Centennial. The women and men of the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office are dedicated to providing exceptional provide public safety services in an effective and efficient manner. The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office is committed to quality service, with an emphasis on integrity, professionalism and community spirit.”

Wow how times have changed. Anyone else here remember when the city of Centennial was in so much debt to ACSO that ACSO threatened to start to cut off services to Centennial?

They need each other. If ACSO lost the Centennial contract, they would have to cut so much of the department as then they wouldn't cover hardly anything. And it's cheaper for Centennial to contract than to start and operate their own.

Somebody had posted that before, but from what I heard it was just to help them get a better deal and that it was never a serious option.

ACSO is a good department. No need for Centennial to reinvent the wheel.

I agree, from my thankfully limited experience with them! Also, it would have been hard to justify since Centennial is consistently has the lowest crime rate in Colorado of all major cities.

I bet the city can't wait till the streets of South Glenn finally get built. Sales tax will help that bottom line..
