I don't really know a lot about centerfire, however, the price does seem right, and they sell a lot of these on ebay. Then again, anything is better than the stock antenna!

If you get one,let us know how you like it.

I am looking for a good discone also, definately let me know if you like this one if you decide to buy it. I would only be concerned with build quality. If it is built too light weight and flemsy, the next day a good wind comes up, your antenna will come down.

thanks for the reply fellas. for the price i think i am gonna try one. i guess it should be better than using my rubber ducky at home. yeah, durability was kinda my concern but i am sure i can find a way to reinforce it if i have to.

i ended up buying this one:

now i just have one more question. should i mount this on top of my roof in the front(only using 18ft of rg6), or would it be better to mount it on my old tv antenna pole about 25ft tall (would have to run about 50ft of rg6). i know the shorter the coax the better, but would height make the difference up for the longer coax run? thanks.

alright fellas i mounted this lil jewel this morning. it was kinda somewhat small but seemed to be made well. i mounted it on my tv ant mast about 22' up w/ rg6 and i can sure tell a difference between this one and the rubber ducky. i havent had a lot of time to scan but my 1st test was trying the wx channels because they are always transmitting. w/ the ducky i got only one, with this discone i can pick all of them up, so i would say a definate improvement.

looks like a better quality one than what i got, but mine works better than the stock ant. i have talked w/ a lot of these guys and heard that rg6 was good but not the best, but for 50' or so it would get expensive if u wanted real good line.

Yeah, I think I'll stick with the RG-6. We have a surplus store here so I'll have to pay them a visit, Im sure they will carry it. I bought all of my ethernet cables there for cheaper than what eBay offered.

Anyways, when it comes in I'll let you guys know how it works. I'm really only interested in the aviation band but I'll scan some other freq's.

VERY interesting. I bought the same antenna from the same seller on Ebay. I did the same thing you did (replaced my old TV antenna on the roof). I plugged it in and LOST all my wx channels and gained nothing but some CB activity on channel 19. I've been at a loss since. I'm glad to read your post and see that this Discone worked for someone. What scanner did you hook it up to?

Has anyone conceived of testing these antannas in an objective manner?

Maybe one of the Hams on here?

This sounds promising. I'm sure we have the same Discone and got it from the same seller on Ebay. Yours is in your attic. How long is the RG8 you are running to your scanner? My outdoor test this morning was only 5ft, and I had better results with the rubber duck.

no, mine is mounted on top of a 20 ft piece of conduit about 30' from my house out in the open. i am running about 50-60' of rg6. i started out on my tv antenna but there were too many trees around so i moved it out in the open. i know this ant. does work, i just might have better conditions than u or something. i am a newbie at this stuff though so i dont have it all down yet.
