Hey fellas, found this a few days ago and figured it'd be cool to share. Screenshot 2025-09-17 133213.png

Photo 1: Ladder 1
Photo 2: The 2 new Ladders delivered last month
Now notice the difference in the cabs. Ladder 1 has 4 seats. 2 in the front 2 in the rear. The rear ones face away. Now look at the 2nd photo. There's 5 seats. 2 in the front and 2 in the rear with the rear ones facing foward.

I don't know what inspired the change in the cab layout and the addtion of an addtional seat but maybe CFD is planning to have 5 man Ladder Co.'s instead of 4? I personally think it's a great idea. Imagine a fire in 12's and Engines 12 and 312 have 5 and Ladder 12 rolls with 5. That's 15 FF's on scene with just 3 trucks. Now say Engine and Rescue 23 show up with 5 and 4 and HazMat 4 and A/L 4 show up with 2, that's 28 firefighters on scene. Damn near 30 on the 1st alarm. Big things are coming gentlemen, I can feel it.

The Ladder loadout in the rear - the 35's, 28's, 16's is different too. Maybe the shops can adjust the current Ladder 1 to fit new fleet load out. I imagine each Ladder will have a full area of auto extrication tools in a dedicated locker (maybe when the Rescues start to get phased out?) and all new trucks look like they will have Federal Q2B Sirens! Can't wait to see the new Ladders in service!!

With the Rescue fleet getting downsized to 4 with 1 in each quadrant, the Ladder companies are planned to be decked out with a full extrication set as they will be the unit getting tagged out on pins, rollovers, highway wrecks and more. I'd imagine the Rescues still go on the major stuff and when special called but with only 1 in each quadrant It could take a while for them to get on scene. That Ladder company will get on scene quicker in theory and start getting to work before the Rescue arrives.

As of right now Ladders carry a Jaws and Spreaders but nothing more advanced then that. Last I checked they aren't decked out with paratech struts, Rescue 42's, all that fancy stuff. It kinda makes sense because the Rescue fleet hasn't downsized yet. Right now the CFD wants to keep Ladders available as much as they can. That's kind of the whole reason Ladders stopped responding as the SSV's back in 2009. But that's probably coming back :ROFLMAO:

Just drove by an incident on 14th and a brand new shiny Pierce was on scene as Ladder 6.
The blue lights really pop on this truck, rear and sides.
Just amend the legislation and go full out. Add a dash of blue on the cab roof lights, perfection.

Well it's nice to know that Ladder 6 finally got a replacement. And with blue lights too! I wonder where it's old Quint went? Hopefully for growth because with all the fire activity this month, the dept. sure could benefit from another Ladder Company.

Did you happen to catch a shop number?

I didn't, I was busy admiring the blue lights on the side as I went by 😅

I did notice the rear bumper/little deck has three white LED straps now on each segment though. I don't recall seeing those on Ladder 1

These new Ladders have a whole bunch of differences compared to Ladder 1. It's insane how much more ideas went into this batch.

Now for the SN. Assuming that the CFD is picking up off Ladder 1, then logically the SN should be L1125. One could argue that it could be L1225 but CFD seems to give the lower SN to the rig that has a lower number. That's why TW19 is TW0123 and TW31 is TW0331. So unless there's a Ladder 2 now it has to be L1125.

So what's everyone's thoughts on the 4 stations that will house the Rescues?
If their looking for an 'equal' distribution across quadrants, I'm guessing we will see 4 new stations with 10,11 losing the Rescues.

I could see 17 in the NW, easy access to Crowchild and subsequently anywhere in the NW. NE, 22 or 32 gives good access across the quadrant and to the airport.
The South seems to be a little trickier with its geography. Maybe 8 SW and 39 SE?
What's people's thoughts?

We have had this discussion a bit before. The rumor at the time was 11 Tech getting moved to 16 and 10 Tech getting moved to 17, with the HazMat moving down to 10. Both good choices. I would say a Rescue goes to 32 (it a HUGE hall with decent access) and 19 or 26 for the south Rescue - just my thoughts though.

I am curious to see if CFD makes the ff's on the Engines in these 4 halls part of the TR team - that would mean 32 members minimum on each shift with TRT training (more or less)

CFD is getting $21 Million dollars more to the budget this year so we will start to see those extra Ladders and Engines staffed, maybe other units too!

Figured y'all would find this interesting. This was posted on Sept 12 by the company that does the City's graphics.

I imagine the Pierce Wagons are real close now to getting deployed. If they haven't already that is. I still have no idea where they will end up. I imagine one might go to 19 since Engine 43 has 19s main right now.

The truck looks good. Got to say though, not a huge fan of abbreviating 'department' above the lockers. Just seems, I dunno, unprofessional almost.

But the reason for that, the city logo proceeding it, raises a question, if they can have it there on a red background, why oh why does it need that white backing block on the doors. Even after almost 10 years, it still looks odd.

If the white striping along base was moved up and and the logo incorporated into there, it wouldn't be so bad...same on current trucks, put the logo in the stripe and balance the door out.

Fun fact, Engine 43 is Engine 7's old rig - (E3817) it might have served as 19 for a bit, 19 is supposed to have there original rig back (E4017) but I have not confirmed that yet

Some minorish CFD moves - BT0414 is now HS0414; Health and Safety unit. Will we see a Safety Chief on the streets and not a DC acting as a Safety Chief at fire scenes? Hard to say, CFD has had a Health and Safety SUV with lights/siren package before, nice to see the BT's still in use though.

Investigator units are now "FX" 1 new van (FX0425) and one pick-up truck (FX0524) Station assignments/unit designation unknown

All 3 new Aquatics Boat Tows with the rescue bodies are in service, the shops have a couple new units, too.

Having a dedicated Safety Chief or a Safety Officer at least would be pretty beneficial. It would allow the 2nd DC to take on a more operational role such as Operations, Division Supervisor, side Supervisor, all that fun stuff.

Hamilton, Ontario seems to be having great success when the their 2 dedicated safety officer units. Having something like that in Calgary would have the same effect.
