The new ECC Building will be locabed on audie lane off radio station road in
La Plata. Near the old fire lo-band transmitter.

The county has cleared 3 channels (866.325, 868.65, 868.9) for use. The remaining 5 channels (866.625, 867.05,
867.45, 868.675, 868.925) are pending.

All existing county radio users are anticipated to transfer to the new system. A total of 25 talkgroups have been identified for use. The proposed analog talkgroups will be used for fire and EMS, Van Go, Building, , Utilities.

The only planned digital users are animal control, and the sheriff, corrections, and msp La plata.

The proposal calls for 267 analog mobiles, 250 digital mobiles, 379 analog portables and 249 digital portables.
Only digital radios will provide encryption too.
Also I beleve there will be a 9600 step mode, But I can still pick the digital mode on my BC250D.

but what about encryption?

i read in the previous post that animal control and the sheriff's department plan to be digital, but has anyone heard anything about the two of those departments being encrypted as well? or will they be digital, but in the clear, so to speak? i imagine sensitive units within the sheriff's department will probably be encrypted, as they should be, but my concern is being able to monitor the main dispatch channels. any insight that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

sincerely,

I just noticed that the database at this site has nothing at all for law enforcement frequencies for Charles County. I tried to find them last night and came up with 155.535 and 155.61 as Channels 1 and 2. What else is there and, if someone has the complete list, how about submitting it to the database?

That prestons.org site is not working. And a note on the page says "scanner" is down permanently.

I was surprised when I started searching for Charles County police/sheriff freqs that reception was so good once I finally found them. But all I could come up with were those two I listed. They were very active last night as they did a search through fields and woods, resulting in a capture of the perp of some crime. I'm not sure what I was hearing was the county police force or the sheriff's department. There were some mobile units identified as LaPlata 4XX in the mix.

Thanks mstarn and others. That's the list I was looking for. From listening to the traffic on 155.535 and 155.61, there seems to be a lot of changing back and forth among the freqs which would indicate interworking between Waldorf and LaPlata is a common tactic.

Charles County Sheriff's Office, and Animal Control will be both digital and encrypted. Fire/EMS, Maintenance, Utilites, and County Roads, will only be digital -- not encrypted... there are two sytems. Projected implimentation of the new system is November of this year.... training has begun for the Sheriff's office on how to use the new radio system, and the new mobile units have started to be installed in the cruisers...

hope this helps

Why does animal control need to be encrypted???? Waste of taxpayer money as far as I'm concerned. Don't take this the wrong way, I have no interest in listening to animal control anyways :)

I don't think that's the reason either. Usually the only reason a TG or frequency would be encrypted is because it's considered sensitive. I don't see what could be so sensitive about animal control to warrant such a move. I can understand if certain sheriff TGs would be encrypted, but why all of them? Like I said earlier, it's a waste of taxpayer money.
