It would be nice to have a local scanner club or group that meets every month or so. There are the local ham radio clubs but I'm not a member and don't think they are necessarily into scanner stuff. Feel free to contact me via email if you feel this forum is not doing the job. Do you have IM capabilities? What type of help do you need?

The local hams were getting a group together for scanner enthusiasts back last spring. I heard the talk about it on the local 2 meter rptr here in the Concord NC area. They were going to meet in south Charlotte once a month.

I do not know if they are still meeting or even if it got a good start. I will try remember to check in one night on the rptr and ask one of the other hams.

I am also a ham here in Charlotte. The call is N8CQD. I am pretty active with scanners and have had them for many years. I also volunteer for CMPD. Any interest in setting a date with a local library for a free meeting room or other meeting place, announce it, and see what happens?

A group in Cleveland, Ohio, for example, meets at a Denny's on a quarterly basis for a frequency and information swap.

MAYBE WE COULD MEET OVER BEER AND PIZZA! WE SHOULD PICK A LOCAL REPEATER TO MONITOR. SOME OF THE SPECIFIC FREQUENCIES AND TALKGROUPS MIGHT BE A LITTLE SENSITIVE TO TALK ABOUT ON HAM REPEATERS BUT GENERAL SCANNING CONVERSATION SHOULD BE OK.

JON

I LIKE 440 OR 220 AND KIND OF STAY AWAY FROM 2 METERS FORTHE MOST PART. THE 444.35 AND 444.95 MACHINES ARE GOOD. MAYBE THE 443.85 ECHOLINK MACHINE.

scanner group

Yes, I am a ham, KE4VZB is the call sign. I am not very active either but "lurk" on the repeaters on occasion to see what is going on.

I am up for having a scanner meeting if there is enough interest.

I would be up for a meeting in the area. Anyone else a photographing fire buff that hangs out in the city during the nights?

I'm just curious in what part of town people live. Maybe we could pick a meeting location convenient to everyone (I live in Cornelius). Then just pick a date and see how much interest there is initially. Maybe instead of meeting on local amateur repeaters the scanner group could fund a GMRS repeater in the area since there currently isn't one that's open to everyone. (or maybe a combination of Ham and GMRS).

There are some scanner folks in the Charlotte Amateur Radio Club. I know because I'm one of them! We hold a general meeting on the first Thursday of the month and the remaining Thursdays are open house nights. If you have questions or just want to talk scanners that would be great! Our website is: www.w4cq.com. There isn't anything about the scanner group there but it will give our club station location and the phone number in the club room. It has voicemail or you can email me. I believe my email address is on the club website.
