If I have to start using an alpha pager to get alerted to a call like it’s 1980 again after having voice paging and P25 pagers… that’s insane to me😂
Maybe it’s not about you, but rather about providing a more efficient service to the people
In the County.

As someone who has been one of your so called providers on both ends of the radio. there is nothing in my opinion that is efficient about this decision. Getting woken up in the middle of the night to the alarm and spoken dispatch of a voice pager vs. just beeping of a text pager is a very big difference that feels like it’s going backwards in progress.

Let alone the numerous FDs that are in the county that use the VHF 2tone pager as apart of their station alerting which now will be inconvenienced by the loss of ability to use that resource.

I’m aware it’s not about me but it doesn’t seem to be a decision made with the responder in mind.

How many people really are carrying pagers these days. I’d be willing to be that 90% are relying on active 911 or some sort of app for dispatches. I see it everywhere.

The resistance to change is more about losing the rebroadcast.

How many are CARRYING them day to day for volunteer responses? Minimal.

However like I stated above- almost everyone that I know use it overnight to wake up for calls, career and volunteer alike.

The 2 Tone also was integrated with many of those apps like IamResponding as a failover/backup to alerting when the CAD goes down.

Similarly like stated above almost every reputable station alerting system utilizes 2 tone alerting as a fail safe.

The resistance is to the rebroadcasts right now because it’s what is the most recent change. Majority don’t realize the effects that the QCII going away will have on them until it happens and are seen.

I have carried a Motorola Minitor fire pager for over 40 years. I will miss it definately. The loss of the rebroadcast is also having a negative effect. A lot of people used that position on the Minitor to hear the status given to the first responding chief and now the other officers have to be quick to turn their portables to hear it, but most don’t have their portable close enough to catch it.

From what I’ve heard it all came down to money. Chester unlike some other counties in our area supplies the pagers to the departments.

Yeah i figured that would happen and i thought that would've happened sooner after i heard them testing a few months ago on the Harris system......Wonder if their going with the G4's for the 1st responders.
You heard the locution TTS voice paging being tested, that’s not happening anymore either. They’re not giving G4s either unfortunately. This will be POSCAG Alpha paging now, strictly text based no voice at all. First responders have to turn in county issued Minitor 5s and will be given a Swissphone alpha pager at the end of the year.

That’s over a year out at least. Be surprised if it happens before spring of 26.
Sounds like it’s moving pretty rapidly and will be in place before the new year, all FDs were given a pretty quick turn around to make sure that all info for the county owned minitor that were issued as up to date in the county database so that they can start rolling out the alpha paging

What’s going to be interesting is how they announce recalls. Not all volunteers can afford a Unication or SDS Series scanner. From what I understand they will be sending out a text message for the recall. So now they’re asking people to read text messages while driving to the station or call location. Not very smart.

My home 20 eating pizza.
I hope it works out but my county tried forcing alpha paging on everyone at one point. It was a disaster. The few departments that tried it eventually told them to shove it and went back to the way better voice paging. If they want to switch to it fine but they should just add the automated dispatch to the existing paging channel to keep it around…. For when the alpha inevitably goes tits up.

Maybe you should of got a G4, or you can use the G5 for when your going on Vacation and need to listen to VHF
Thanks for telling me what I should have done for myself. Considering I use my G5 in 5 (yes, 5) counties, I think I got what I needed.
