Going to be staying near Midway for a night. Any pointers or tips about scanning in the area? I got CPD and FD pretty much figured out. The surrounding towns seem a bit confusing at least the way they're displayed in the RR database with all the consolidated dispatch centers. Are there any buff frequencies out there? Also what would be the best site to use for the Starcom21 system? Can I just use one site to hear everything in the greater Chicago area?

The City is all UHF conventional for PD P25 for Fire Dispatch , the suburbs are mostly VHF , Extra alarm fires and mutual aid requests are done over IFERN 154.265. Starcom is used by the ISP and some towns for dispatch. Consolidated dispatch centers just means there is one dispatch center for muliple departments but they can also be on multiple freqs. You want to scan Oak Lawn central and Southwest central if your staying by Midway those are the two closest suburban dispatch centers
...and to add, CPD Zone 6 (8th District) is around Midway. If you have time and patience to program in the Midw and any other Midway Airport UHF-T system you will receive the Midway Airport CPD,Dept. of Aviation Police and any other Midway Airport happenings. If you're an aviation buff, Midway Tower is 118.700, Ground is 121.650.
and to add....Starcom T102-So Chicago Hts is the tower to use, the CC is 774.34375.....

Another question about the starcom system. Will my psr 500 work for the talkgroups that are not tdma? I also have a pro 668 I can use but I'd rather use the 500 if I can.
We do not have any TDMA except for one tower far north, T102 is normal as is the rest of the state....The system is just labeled PhaseII ready....Yup, you can use the GRE500, create a P25 system, install the CC I gave and put in a "WILDCARD" and you should see all TG's as long as your not in a "dead " spot then move the scanner around......
