Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,

I have a UV-5R V2+ and I GET the "Frequency is out of supported range" message in CHIRP when I try to add a 70cm frequency. It does allow me to add a 2m frequency.

I'm not able to upload the "factory" N5R-20 image described in the UV5R F8HP Recovery Baofeng Pofung UV5R site. I've tried using the 4/14/2014 and 4/7/2014 versions of CHIRP. I also can't upload the original image I pulled off in January 2015. From all these attempts, I get the "incorrect image" error. I can download an image, add a 2m frequency, and then turn around and upload it right back into the radio, so I think my connects are all good. I've also performed the menu 40 reset a few times.

For added info, the CHIRP version I started with was from mid January 2015.

Thanks for any help

Looks like I either stumped everyone or I didn't give good information. Is there anything I can add that might help with diagnosis?

Thanks!

Not enough info. What if the "real" firmware version of your radio (not what you see in the [3] key + Power-on message)? Are you able to key in frequencies for the 220 MHz ham band (you may have a VHF/220 model)?

Hello Jim,

The [3] key + power-on message is BFB297

It looks like I put 220.000 into a memory channel, but I can't test it now. In the past I have put a 440 MHz ham band in and pinged a repeater and heard its tail noise.

I'm taking off on vacation Friday and have a number of 2m frequencies in it for my route. If I go quiet, I'm on the road.

Thanks for your reply

Download from your radio into CHIRP and email the "image" file to me: uv5r [at] kc9hi [dot] net

I will "fix" it and return it to you.
