Anyone happen to know what the "ALL GLD" and "ALL BLK" lines stand for? I have noticed this on a few logs today in the Sacramento com center. I do not seem to be seeing it on any other com centers and it's not on all the logs in Sacramento. I know that gold radio is for the North Sac area and black radio is for South Sac area and that would be the radio channels for the area of these logs but not sure what the "all" is for. Are they starting to bring units from other areas in to cover calls with the "all" being a way to tell the units that they have not called units from another area over to the channel? (this is just a guess)

They'll broadcast as a "Blah, blah, blah...any unit to copy" and then "31Mary copies" will come back. It's probably just the all-channel broadcasts they make.

So are you saying they may be doing an "all units" (as in the log I found) broadcast for an 11-79 at Greenback and Brazil and the unit (46-31) would respond with a "31 copies" (keeping in mind that the TC is in beat 3) and then respond to the scene. Or are you saying they are doing an "all units" broadcast with the updated info (power lines down, suspect vehicle info) for all the units and "31" (keeping in mind that 46-31 is on the scene) would still respond with a "31 copies"? (I know 46-31 was on the scene from the scanner traffic I was monitoring on this call. I never got traffic from Sacramento doing any type of all units broadcast but I could have missed it during a scan)

First is completely possible.

Or are you saying they are doing an "all units" broadcast with the updated info (power lines down, suspect vehicle info) for all the units and "31" (keeping in mind that 46-31 is on the scene) would still respond with a "31 copies"? As for the second, I could see if there were numerous units and someone asked the dispatcher to complete a task (which it looked like was a possibility based on the log). The dispatcher attempts to raise someone and nobody responds at first. They eventually do an "anyone out there" broadcast for any unit on scene, and 31 copies.

But that second part is a guess - wasn't listening.

Most of the time I hear the "all units" as "23103 eastbound 80 at the scales. no further, no follower"...nobody replies..."any unit on the Gold to copy"..."46-31 copies".

I would bet a trillion billion bucks that this is the correct answer.

My department's practice is to type simply type "VB". (Voice Broadcasted)

It's not used for every single time something is voiced on the radio, it is used to denote a particular update, status or event that was broadcasted over the channel - not necessarily to a specific unit or to the unit's assigned.

VB over hotline
VB on adjacent channel
VB as pending call
VB update (usually to document significant major officer safety / suspect updates )

It's CYA stuff, protocol, advisements, and simple procedures.
