Hello. I'm fairly new here and new to the police scanners. I recently purchased an Whistler WS1065 scanner. I sent it off to have my county I live in (Dearborn Cty, IN) as well as Hamilton Cty, OH programmed into the scanner. I'm picking up local here and Hamilton Cty (pretty much all of the west side of Hamilton Cty), but I'm not picking up any Cincinnati PD. Local and Cincy PD is what I'm more interested in. They did program it in scanner, as I told the guy that's what I mainly wanted. I'm trying to figure out why its not coming across. Again, I'm new to this, so any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Maybe you are just too far? Might try an external antenna to pick up the signal.

Thank you. I wasn't sure if it was due to me being far out or if I didn't have the right scanner or what. i just ordered an external antenna online. Hoping it helps. Thanks!!!

Yep you are just too far away from any city sites. Especially with the hills surrounding Cincinnati. Look at the range on the map linked below:

Cincinnati Simulcast Site Details (Hamilton County-Cincinnati Public Safety)

The days of long range - high power transmitters are a thing of the past. These new digital systems use just enough power to cover their operations areas.

When they switch over to the MARCS-IP system you may have better luck.

That "range" is NOT the range of the system, but rather a radius of intended coverage, the City of Cincinnati. Obviously, the system is able to be heard outside that radius.

Cincinnati PD dispatch talkgroups for all 5 Districts plus Cincinnati Fire dispatch are carried by the County side full time so you should still be able to hear those talkgroups on the County side with no issues if your hearing other traffic.

Your best bet if your Saturday evenings are free would be to come to a MONIX South meeting usually held the 3rd Saturday of the month so we just had it last night at the Donatos Pizza in Bellevue KY and one of use could look at your scanner in person to see what's been programmed in.

If your picking up Western Hamilton County from Dearborn County then you should be hearing CPD and CFD using the County site.
