Yesterday we had class on the new $7,000 radio and they say we will be migrating over on 8/28/12 with a final completion date around December. I must say the new digital voice with background noise cancellation sounds awesome.
Nope, it has been there for quite a while now and in fact is in current use by a few agencies and several more are coming on line. Houston Fire is doing extensive training (quite boring listening BTW) and the HFD dispatch started yesterday on the dispatch channel.Still looking all these months later ,am I correct this Houston system still not listed in DB?
I also learned the other day during a class that every channel with the exception of dispatch will be encrypted.
I could be wrong about that but I doubt they would tell us that the med channels are encrypted as they currently are.
If you are referring to the HFD UHF channels I am almost sure that before January they will be completely gone. I am unclear as to what HPD is doing; although, there has been plenty of training going on with the FD and the new radios, I have yet to hear anything in reference to the PD. In any case they all will be gone by January since they are not narrow band.I'm a little confused about what will happen to the UHF channels. What I'm trying to ask is if they will remain as active patches for other agencies still using UHF radios. Here in Brazos County, for example, the old Brazos County Sheriff VHF Dispatch channel is still active (and used by DPS troopers when they want to contact the county) but patched to the TxWARN system. Dispatch doesn't directly monitor the channel, but it is there and is indirectly monitored through TxWARN.
I am also a little confused about the Brazos Co. VHF, why would DPS use that instead of just calling on the TxWARN channels? Or do not all of the DPS units out of Bryan have TxWARN in the cars?
As I understand, there will be a disappointingly large amount of encryption on the new Houston public safety talkgroups, which will increase further with the final cut-over of public safety to the TxWARN 1A7 system. All 5 HPD simplex frequencies have been confirmed encrypted.
So far it looks like not. Only A1 and A6 are linked back to UHF right now, and during a mutual aid incident no patch was put up for a UHF-using agency.I'm a little confused about what will happen to the UHF channels. What I'm trying to ask is if they will remain as active patches for other agencies still using UHF radios.
