If using close call only mode with VHF Hi, UHF and 800 + MHz turned on as well as VHF Lo band with a really big telescoping antenna would that improve close call capture as well as squelch set to 2 on the scanner?

Is there anything really still on VHF-Lo out your way?
If you are using the "close call only" mode, the squelch setting is irrelevant. The radio looks for signals with a certain percentage above the noise floor. It will not capture DMR signals because they switch between the time slots too quickly for the radio to latch onto.

Keep in mind Close Call is designed to attenuate reception strength. It’s designed to allow for searches of frequencies while you are very close to where the transmission(s) originate from. An example of how to use Close Call is when you happen upon a fire dept call and you want to listen to the comms but don’t know what frequencies/bands are being used. If you are close enough, say no more than a quarter mile away from the transmissions, you should hear the action. Your scanner won’t hear most everything else as it’s been “dummied down”, its range severely reduced.

There is no such thing as a “close call band” per se.

You might want to let Uniden and Marks Scanners know that, since they seem to call them CC Bands/Close Call Bands.

Either way, an antenna tuned for the band being scanned will yield the best results.

Sorry I have read the response however...

In Eastern MO and SW IL the only true low band around in the Missouri State Highway Patrol back-up system. Anything else on low band could be construction or delivery companies. Looks like low band is a great place for expansion if the FCC needs more room. 😄

Telescoping antennas are better for bring in more distant signals. Theoretically you should be able to get close call hits with little to no antenna depending on how close the transmitter is

After doing some experimenting by putting close call only mode to the VHF air band on only it pulls in aircraft flying over really good it constantly picks the planes up which is pretty cool.
