I was very sad when keazner shut my thread down, I was trying to throw a scenario out for people to think about but thats just ignorant. I am not a police officer but i would risk my life for one if I saw him being assulted on the side of a road. I am very saddened by this, Most of my friends and my customers are various LE officers in wake county. Like I said " I was throwing the scenario out there" but got shut down in a hurry. Thank you Keazner! Think before you do stuff!

I assume you're talking about this thread (http://forums.radioreference.com/no...ssion-forum/215427-scanner-vs-smartphone.html) where you were complaining in the NC Radio forum about the streaming of scanner audio being easy for criminals to access (and said nothing about any systems in NC nor was anything new added from the many existing threads on this topic). It was closed for the reason "since this had to do with scanning in general (and was really not NC specific) along with the fact this topic has been debated ad nauseum in the appropriate forums here at RR.com I am gonna put it to rest."

If the topic is important to you, please feel free to search for recent threads on this topic, pick one that discusses your specifics, read it fully, and feel free to add anything new to the discussion.

The fact is that scanner audio has been determined to be legal in the US (with very few exceptions) and the RR policy is quite clear on what is allowed (e.g. no dedicated SWAT channels, etc.) to help protect officer safety. Criminals can easily purchase a scanner and listen to the police transmissions in with no restrictions and without any delay in the audio.

If the PD is worried about their transmissions being heard they're free to encrypt. They can (and often do) dispatch critical calls using their computers so there's nothing to hear when officer (or victim) safety could be compromised by the radio traffic. Some feed providers have even locked out some of their channels (that were allowed by RR policy) during specific incidents where sensitive information was passed (often due to heavy traffic on their SWAT channel) to help protect officer safety.

There are also laws in many places where listening to the PD transmissions (regardless of how this is done, a scanner, listening to a scanner feed, or having an accomplice relay information on a two-way radio) brings additional charges and often raises the severity of the crime so additional jail time will be given.

Since you decided to post publicly instead of coming to me one-on-one via email or PM I will respond publicly.
I am sorry that you do not agree with my decision.
My responsibilities here are to try to help keep this forum in line with
respect to threads having to do specifically with topics of radio monitoring in North Carolina.
While I agree the topic of smartphone streaming audio apps (and the long term ramifications of using them) is an interesting topic, (and it is a topic that has been debated many times over in other more applicable forums here at RR.com) it has little to do specifically with North Carolina.
I do point out in your initial post in the referenced thread you created you did not mention North Carolina or NC once.
I would suggest trying out your thread in the General Scanning forum where I am sure you will find folks that will be willing to offer input.
I do hope you decide to remain a RR.com member and I hope you understand my decision to close the thread was nothing personal.
Just trying to help keep our community on topic.
If yo have any further questions or concerns I do hope you decide to
contact me directly at KE4ZNR-at-radioreference.com. I promise to email you (and anyone else that contacts me) back as soon as possible.
Thank you for understanding and I wish you and yours a Happy 4th of July!
Happy Monitoring
