The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a motorcycle crash that killed a 35-year-old Denver man this morning near Coal Creek Canyon.
At 11:40 a.m., a 2006 Yamaha YZFR6 motorcycle was traveling westbound through an S-curve on Highway 72 near milepost 15. The Yamaha traveled off the right side of the road, colliding with a large rock and a traffic sign before rolling down an embankment.
The Yamaha's operator, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin, was ejected during the crash. He was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash, but he sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Excessive speed is suspected as a contributing factor.
